Surnames: Rice, Couch
I'm researching my wife's family - Rice, Couch, Sandlin. He grandmother was Martha Couch and Grandfather was Sam Rice. In looking through many of the family links the name Polly keeps coming up in many of the families, But also sometimes the name is shown as Mary or Mary Polly. Anybody know how or why the Polly name is connected with Mary?

Polly is the nickname for Mary...and Mary was the number 1 first name back then. Wikipedia says:

Polly is a nickname for Mary, and is derived from another nickname for Mary, Molly. It is sometimes used as a name in its own right.
