Did anyone else grow up having their name routinely pronounced "Bells?"
Anyway I found the history page on our name interesting. I was born in 83 and raised in Lackawanna County, PA. My father's name was also John but he died when I was a toddler. I was raised by my maternal grandparents and my mother was absentee, so I know very little about my dad. I know he worked as a security guard at the University of Scranton for a period of time. I know it's a long shot, but if you think we may share a genealogy please send me a mail or reply. I've always been into history and not knowing the people that made essentially 50% of who I am today never sat well with me. Thanks in advance!

Do you know when your dad was born, and or where? That could help. And yes "Bells" is a quite common pronunciation. One reason why the name Bellis sprouted just as most of the PA Belles came over from Germany in the early 1700's

People always pronounced my last name as Bells, Ive never met anyone who has the same last name as me that is also pronounced the same; a reason why I decided to go to this website. I was born in 90 and I'd love to know more about my ancestral history and possibly find more relatives because I never really met anyone on my grandfathers side of the family and he passed away a year ago this month and my grandmother passed away november of 2013.
