Possible Persian name Marzian, but
no Persian in my DNA. Could the surname Marzian and any Persian or Caucuses DNA be outside the 20 generations? I found this name: Murtada Fayd ad-Din Marzian in an excerpt of "The Cambridge History of China." He was a "Tartar" trading in Siberia. I think the time frame was the 1200's.

Re: Possible Persian name Marzian, but
Marzian is not Persian but some sort of cross-over of Eastern Europe/Western Europe naming. It occurs in Prussia (now, depending upon which part, in Germany or Poland). Go to familysearch.org, click on SEARCH and then RECORDS. Key Marzian in the surname field and in the birth section key in the birth year range o 1700-1850. That will show you where the name is coming from.

Re: Possible Persian name Marzian, but
I found a Helene Marzian in Germany (West Prussia). I seem to keep returning to West Prussia in my searches. We have found some connections in Liv Ukraine. That didn't help clear up the origins of the Marzian name because there was an Armenian enclave in the region.
I guess up until my birth in 1945 it may not have been a good thing to be a German in Kentucky. So it must have been safer to be Armenian.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Possible Persian name Marzian, but
I can give you two informations:
The last name Marzian is registered in the German phone dictionary about 111 times.
There is a well-known name researcher in Germany; Professor Jürgen Udolph. He is known also from the radio. Perhaps you write to him once? His e-mail address:
gutachten (a) Prof-udolph.com
I hope it is also a small help?
