Hi, I search from time to time for "Deryaw" when I find genealogical sites, and what a surprise to find your site!
I have some background info, My great grandmother, Eliza Jane (1841 - 1888) married Nathaniel Orr ofSimcoe Island (1822-1888) etc. I have the information from Charlie Daryaw (a relative of my late father, Joseph John Sidney Deryaw). I went to a Deryaw/Daryaw reunion in Gananoque several years ago, and a few people were trying to sketch together the family history. The original Daryaws were said to have come from France to the U.S.A. It is said that they came to Canada to avoid going to war, and settled on Larue (now Hill) Island near where the International Bridgeis now. The story is that their land straddled the Canada - U.S. border and it is assumed they are buried there.
It would be good to hear from you ..I could let you know the little info that I have about the Deryaw//Daryaw family history. I come from Bellevile, my dad was born in Gananoque. I now live in Victoria, B.C.
I look forward to a response! Where do you live?
