Does anyone know of a reliable source for information on migration trails/patterns from North Carolina to Indiana? In the 1860 census of IN, there were over 14, 000 persons born in North Carolina.

Re: N. Carolina to Indiana
I have ancestors who were part of that movement. They started in the area of what was then Lincoln Co., NC, passed through part of Tennessee, and ended in Martin and Daviess counties, IN.
I would like to know what part of TN, since my gr-gr-grandfather was reportedly born there.

Re: N. Carolina to Indiana
That is a very common migration route. Many families from NC and TN settled in IN about that time. The general route is as follows:
Many roads extended from western NC into the north eastern corner of TN. The key passage was the Cumberland Gap at the TN/KY border. From there, the route traveled north east (Daniel Boone blazed the trail) to Corbin, KY and then went north to Lexington, KY and then northwest to Louisville, KY. From Louisville, Indiana is right across the Ohio river.

Re: N. Carolina to Indiana
My ancestors relocated from North Carolina to Indiana after the Civil War. Would this be the same route they would have used in 1870?
