Did Martha Jane live with the Smith family before returning to Iowa? I am Hallie Burns box 83 Paducah, Texas. My mother Eula Price Cromwell-Seal had the stories handed down.

If she did, we have no record of it. I'll keep an eye out for the name.
Do you need any other info?

Ball,
Hallie,
We are related. My dad, Edwin Ralph Fitzgerald, is cousins to the seals. My great-grandmother was Myrtle Cromwell and she married Eugene Russell Fitzgerald, who was my father's grandparents. I met some of the Seals at a family reunion in Little Rock, Arkansas. My grandfather was Abner Ralph Fitzgerald. I have met Minnie and Lillie, in fact I have also met Beverly, both were at my house in Roanoke, TX a few years ago when I had a 57th wedding anniversary for my parents, Edwin and Gene (Sornson) Fitzgerald. Lillie remarked how much my middle son, Shad looked like one of her grandchildren! Ironically, my dad and Lillie really favored. Love to speak with you.

I know that US Cavalry was pulled out of "Trail duty" about 1862. They were needed for the Civil War! There was no help for travelers after that for a few years. The Indians took advantage of this too unfortunately!
