John Julius and Emily Morard are my wife's great great grandparents. I guess that makes you guys 3rd cousins. My wife is descended from Louis' sister, Mary Angelina Morard. I have quite a bit of information on J.J. that I am happy to share. However, I have been unable to identify any of J.J.'s ancestors. I have been much more successful on Emily's side and would be happy to share that information, too. You can email me at mrredemske@prodigy.net.

This has already been posted on this board, but I'll post it again.

There is an alternative to purchasing this book. It is available on microfiche. Check with your local Family History Center, if they don't have it in their library, it can be ordered for a very reasonable fee.

Microfiche do not have to be returned to Salt Lake City, so they will remain in your local FHC, available any time for look ups. Equipment is available to make copies of any pages you might want.

Here's the order number: FHL US/CAN Fiche 6125034 (12 fiche)

I have access to a copy and I could do a look up if you need one, although it might take a while since it's about 25 miles away and the genealogy center there isn't open all the time.

Kathy

I resent my original email. I used a different email address jamesmoore4980@sbcglobal.net

O'Rouke's book concentrates mainingly on the families that stayed in Perry County Missouri. Brewer is a very common name in Perry County. O'Rouke does not mention any Brewer's going to Texas in his one page titled Texas Fever. He does mention that Yoakum straddles the Dewitt and Lavaca county lines.

I found seven William Brewer's. I will need his spouse's maiden name or his father and mother's maiden name with a date of birth or death to verify that one of these Williams are your relative.

One William H. Brewer born in 1891, this is not a match for your William.

No listing for a Henry Porter Brewer.

I have found that searching a state's internet archives is a very helpful. Missouri has the two earliest state history books digitized and are easily searched. Perhaps Texas has a similar resource.

Good luck with your search,
Jim Moore

Thanks for the info on the Clements Family. For all who need to view this book, it is part of the collection at the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. For anyone living in the midwest, it is well-worth a trip to use their genealogy collection. I spent 3 full days there during my last trip to Indiana and barely covered the tip of the iceberg. You can plan your research by using their card catalog online. I keep a running list of the books I want to use on my next trip.

Yes, about 3 pages listed, with only 17 individuals mentioned. the first being a William H. Clements, married in 1853 to Malvina Hagan, the daughter of Electious Hagan, born in Charles County, MD and Susannah Ann Gwynn, daughter of Thomas Gwynn of Prince Georges' County, MD. I don't know if this helps you out but I just thought I would let you know what is published in Timothy J. O'Rourke's book.

Mary, I sent you an email at the address given in your post. I will continue the information on Thomas Brewer and his children by the end of this week as my time permits. I will also work on the information about Charles Brewer and Mary Knott . These Brewers married into my family lines of the Tucker's, Hagan's and Manning's. We are distant cousins for sure. I will keep your email address and you can send me questions and information regarding your family lineage to my address: cdbw411@yahoo.com Send me your queries directly and I will try to give you any help that I can. Most information about the Maryland Catholic families from Saint Mary 's County, Maryland , Nelson County, Kentucky and Perry County, Missouri can be directed to www.stmarysfamilies.com/

I try to work on genealogy about once or twice a month. You can also go to Rootsweb, USGenweb, and www.new.familysearch.org to look up information and send out queries. Most of my information and direction came to me via Acts of Genealogical Kindness, so I try to pass it forward whenever I can help anyone. Keep in touch and I will try and finish the above info before the end of this week-end.

Sincerely, with Acts of Genealogy Kindness;

My 3rd Great Grandparents are James Joseph or Joseph James Smith and Mary Elizabeth Tucker. Her parents were William Tucker and Sarah Hayden.

I have been trying to follow all the diffeent Smiths and other surnames organizing them into their proper families. That diary would be most helpful and so would the O'Rourke book.

My brother and I had our DNA tested last year and I am just trying to organize all that information I have. It can be overwhelming at times and incredible to think about. I am not surprised to see Spanish names in our DNA anymore after so much research and history that I have read. Is there anyone out there that would like to share stories I wonder? I am confused about how to find others interested as I am. I tried to get a hold of the reunion website for Maryland Catholics but it is closed. I am too late for the last reunion. Would love to meet and stay intouch with my kin!

Thank you for your reply.

Have you seen the book by Timothy O'Rourke? "Maryland Catholics on the Frontier"? Large book. It has a lot about the Perry County Missouri Catholics from Kentucky. Also I think there is going to be a reunion of the descendants of those who migrated from Maryland to Kentucky and beyond in 2012. Check out the site: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdkyre/ for more information.
Don Lawse

I would be very interested in this book also as my 4th greats are Bernard Smith & Ann Drury from Maryland. I am trying to find out when they left Maryland and how long or if they stayed in Kentucky and where their son James Joseph was born? They all ended up in Perry County, Missouri. Bernard and Ann were one of the families who established the Catholic Church which is in St Marys, Missouri today. I have purchased books that have much information also. They are listed as receiving land grants as a result of the Louisiana Purchase.
If you would like more information leT me know.
My surnames (mainly greats) are: SMITH MILES MANNING TUCKER SIMMS DRURY LAYTON HAYDEN CARPENTER and many more.

Have a nice day!

Hello,
My GG Grandmother was Philomine Manning Smith(1841-1929) who was married to my GG Grandfather Emanuel Joseph Smith(1841-1899). They are laid to rest in St Mary's Missouri Cemetery next to my Great Grandparents Lawrence F and Ada Miles Smith and my Aunt Irene their daughter and my Grandfather's sister. I have traced my Smith side to Maryland 1772? myself and also wish a copy of the O'Rourke book because I have run into a brick wall.
Philomine's children were Lawrence, Hattie, and Vincent. When she was widowed she married a widower named Peter Dean on 11/26/1900. Hope that helps you.
Sincerely, Linnea Smith Volkmar

Years back I purchased the Timothy O'Rourke book and it was the best $175.00 I ever spent. Many of those featured were my ancestors.

When I began my many searches, I first became interested in my great grandfather, Andrew Gorman. I recognize he played a minor role in the scheme of things, by merely marrying into the Maryland Catholics, but maybe someone has a photo? It's a dream. He died in 1928, so I have to think my photo dream is possible.

My grandfather was his eldest son, Emerson, and I have lots to share.

I found this post a few pages back. I called and talked to Dan O'Rourke about a year or so ago and he still had some books and they were $175. I just haven't had the money to get it but a library about 25 miles from me has a copy I can use. Here's a copy of the post:

Maryland Catholics on the Frontier
CDBENTLEYWYNN (View posts) Posted:	4 Sep 2007 3:11PM
Classification: Query
Surnames: Layton, Tucker, Miles, Taylor, Hagan, Duvall, Neitcher
Hi, grumpypuppy3, I received my copy of MCF from Mr. Dan O'Rourke, the brother of the author, Timothy J. O'Rourke. I called him at his home in Overland Park Kansas to order the book and he was very gracious. This book last October, (2006), cost $150.00, but it was my understanding at that time that the price was going to increase to $175.00. There were only about 35 copies of this book available. You can reach Dan O'Rourke at his home by calling: 913-599-7022 or by writing to him at this address: 10676 West 157th Terrace, Overland Park, Kansas KS 66221. I had to follow up with a phone call after I sent him the check to find out if the book had been mailed to me. He is very trustworthy and will follow through with his word. I hope you can get your copy of this book, it is a wonderful resource tool and family heirloom. The book is not without its flaws, but mostly do to the publisher/my copy had a page of information missing, but I was able to get a copy of this page from another MCF researcher who owned the book. I hope the information that I have shared with you will be of assistance to you. Good Luck and please post your experience and family history, so that we too may know your lineage to Maryland Catholic Families.

Good luck on becoming a member of the DAR. John Manning was my GGGGGrandfather.
