Looking for resources to tract ancestors from the East to the West
I am looking for resources to track my ancestors from the East to the West Are there such resources available? Most of my ancestors were in California between 1857 and 1868. Are there Railroad records (of that time) of the passenger lists? Is there wagon train records any where of the people that were on them?
Just trying to figure out how James Orr and Michael Canty got to San Francisco. James sometime in the late 1860's and Michael in the late 1850's. If you have any records available or resources, please let me know how to access them.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Re: Looking for resources to tract ancestors from the East to the West
I too would love them to add train and wagon passenger lists. They are out there but it will take someone to add them. If enough people mention it maybe it will happen. All my family came west pre 1870 and no signs of them on ships. There is also a huge hole of data during the Civil War unless you where in the Civil war.
I vote for Train & Wagon passenger Lists!!

Re: Looking for resources to tract ancestors from the East to the West
I purchased Louis J. Rasmussen's book "California Wagon Train Lists - It covers those who journeyed across the frontier by covered wagons 5 Apr 1949 - 20 Oct 1852. I would be happy to look up any ancestors you might have!

Re: Looking for resources to tract ancestors from the East to the West
That sounds great but mine were coming across during the 1865-1868 time period to SF, CA.
I think mine relatives would not be in your book!
Thanks for the offer!

Re: Looking for resources to tract ancestors from the East to the West
Hi, My ancestor, Joseph Winslow, went west in 1849 and I would be very happy if you could look him up in the Rasmussen book. He was a doctor and went with a group from Wisconsin and ended up in Fremont, Yolo county, California. Thanks in advance. Carol
