What time period is this?

Surnames: Crossley, Bell
I'm desperately trying to figure out what time period this couple is in. The woman is my gg-grandmother Eva Crossley. It's the man I can't figure out. Eva married my gg-grandfather William Bell in 1867. He "died" by 1875 when she remarried. Then he died in 1889. She remarried #3 after 1889 but before 1893. I'm really hoping it is my William. But I doubt it. But I'd like someones help to identify the time period. If it helps, Eva lived in Iowa.

Many regards,

Morgan

hello. your people are of no relation to me...but i am a history buff. i'd say that, judging by the clothes the people are wearing it's in the 1890-1910 range...i have a lot of old photos of my own family at home from the same general time frame....if i'm off at all let me know.
and happy hunting.

Judging by the style of clothing and hair I would place this photo on 1870-1880. I think you can definately rule out husband #3.
The smooth sholder area of the sleeve- the pleating of the bodice, the printed necktie on the gentleman, the center part in her hair, the neck scarf- all popular 1870-1875.
When was Eva born? This woman doesn't look especially young. Also what type of photo was it? Size? card? postcard? writing on the back?
A good book to have is Dating Old Photographs 1840-1929. My copy has paid for itself over and over again.
