DNA listings and Locked Family Trees

I've had my DNA completed, now that I'm going through the listings to find family members, I see that there are many who lock their family tree. Why would you go through the expense of having your DNA for Family Finding and then lock your tree so no one can see if you are related? I've had several that have "HINTS" but their trees are locked. When I write to them and politely ask if they could review my tree to see where our connection is through a specific ancestor, I get no response. These people make NO SENSE to me.

This is a long standing complaint. All you can do is ask politely and hope for a response.

1. Some people are only interested in ethnicity. They are trying to prove or disprove the family legend of the "Cherokee princess".
2. Some are only interested in unknown close relatives so only respond to posts from potential 3rd cousins or closer.
3. Some have personal reasons for keeping their tree private. Believe it or not, some have been severely harassed about the contents of their tree.
4. Some have simply lost interest in genealogy and don't respond.
5. Sometimes the message system is flakey and they don't get the email.

There are no doubt other reasons.
