Burke often refers to "temp." Any idea what that stands for? The obvious choice of temporary does not work.
....he fled to Ireland and settled at Dungannon, co. Tyrone, where he d. temp. Charles II. By Alice his wife he left a son.

temp. possibly italicized -a legal abbreviation of the Latin "tempore" - in the time of (when the date is vague or not precisely known, hence the reference to a reign by name of the monarch Charles II).
