Elephants are pachyderms, and known for their thick skin. <br><br>I don't know exactly what part of the brain would be thickened, the dura I would guess, and the causes could be anything from alcoholism to trauma. <br><br>Symptoms can be migraine-type headaches, and other abnormalities in blood work, brain scans, etc. <br><br>I don't enough about this to give "medical" advice, but pachy is a thickening.
