I so know the feeling. I actually know quite a bit about my gg grandfather (the doctor in KY) but can't find anything about his g grandfather. Those records going back to the early 1700's are so scarce it is hard to get past them. Good luck to you. I hope the email address can provide something for you.

Just out of curiosity - are you from the original west virginia (augusta county - Virginia) McClungs? I know of several who were JP's or Sheriffs in the frontier times.

Interesting that you should ask. I have been investigating my mother's family name, Johnson/Johnston who first showed up in Augusta Co, VA. I haven't even looked at the McClungs I guess I need to look. Do you have information of interest?

I had to think for a few minutes - I believe Lyman Chalkey (the Chalkey Chronicles)had an entire page devoted to the McClung family of Augusta County. If memory serves, they were one of the "go-to" families of the time!
