Surnames: Grant, Dow, McIntyre
I was recently shocked to find out that NO ONE ELSE has applied to U.E.L. Association as a descendant of John "Duldraeggan" Grant (who married Mary
McIntyre, Catherine Grant and possibly Caroline Grant) when there is so much written about this family!

I didn't apply, but a cousin recently did and her application was accepted! This basically "proves" that our shared ancestor, John Grant (c.1798-1869) is a son of John "Duldraeggan" Grant and Mary McIntyre!
This was a brickwall of mine for so long!

John Grant, son of John "Duldraeggan" Grant, as far as I can see only had one child (Sarah JANE/JEAN Grant, wife of James Alexander Dow), so that could explain why there aren't too many people researching him, but he had many siblings who married into well known and well researched families that I'm surprised that no one else has applied for this!

If I'm wrong though, feel free to contact me. This cousin was informed by the UEL Association that she has been the only one who has applied though....

Recently I too discovered that Grant (Duldreaggan) , John aka John Duldreggan Grant aka Mr John Grant as he appears on Lots 25 & 26 Street Road Charlottenburg Glengarry McNiff's Map 1786 had been inserted on the UEL list . Supposedly someone from the Vancouver Branch of UELAC had it PROVEN . This same Vancouver Branch UELAC has apparently misplaced the records of this , as apparently the National UELAC has as well . Curiouser and curiouser . This same John Duldreggan Grant had remained in Scotland with his 9 children into year 1785 when he and 8 of his children [no wife] boarded Ship [ship's name in dispute] and destination Glengarry Canada . By deceit or misadventure the Ship put in at New York , where they overwintered , and they came overland to Glengarry in 1786 . This John Duldreggan Grant never took up land or settled in the American Colonies prior to the Rev War ending in 1783 . How does this make him a Loyalist ! He married a Mary McIntyre in Montreal and had 8 more kids with her , yet I have not seen any Land Petitions from any of his 16 children as s/d of a UE . Why can't UELAC furnish their PROOF !!! I am eager to hear other's thoughts on this matter .

Jay: I do believe that the head office does not keep the applications and proofs there. They are kept with the Branch who applied for the UE certification. We also are very interested in the final proof that our Cousin from Vancouver Branch used. At one time I also asked the Vancouver Branch for the final proof and I was told that the person who submitted the works did not want to share with others. Sister, Margaret, even contacted the person who submitted the application. Her answer, she could not remember. We are still taking a look at this situation. UELAC national Conference is in Victoria this year and some of the family plan to attend.

Thanks Anne . I think I have already determined who it was that submitted that PROOF , and I have read other of Her Posts . Please check out Her Item titled John Grant "Ian Mohn Na Catheran" "Big John The Robber" which is to be found in Loyalist Trails dated January 14 2007 . I have also emailed the current genealogist and past president of the Vancouver Branch UELAC and he has promised to look into it . Thanks again . Who knows , she may yet surprise us .
