Searching for Sonia/Sonya ONKER or UNKER, alive in 2001, lived in Karmiel, Israel

I'm helping someone research their grandfather, Abram Frayman, born c. 1918, who was killed in WWII.

Abram's cousin, Sonia Onker/Sonya Unker filled in a testimony form for the Shoah Victims database at http://db.yadvashem.org/names/search.html?language=en. (Also see attached form.)

Sonia/Sonya was alive in 2001 and, from what we can tell, she lived in Karmiel, Israel. Her address is near the bottom of the page (in Russian.)

Can someone who reads Hebrew search the current phone directories, newspapers or other records in Israel for her? The family I'm helping would love to speak with her about their grandfather.

There used to be a service in Israel at the Jewish Agency called the "Search Bureau for Missing Relatives", run by a search wizard by the name of Batya Untershatz, but she retired a few years ago, I think. In case she is still working there, or if someone else is providing the same service, here is some old contact info:

# The Jewish Agency (Ha-Sokhnut): P.O.B. 92 Jerusalem 91000 Israel, tel. (972)-2-6752761, Fax: (972)-2-6202222, E-mail: office@jafi.org.il

Search Bureau for Missing Relatives: Batya Untershatz, P.O.B. 92 Jerusalem 91000 Israel, tel.(972)-2-5612471, (972)-2-5612472

Another very helpful resource is a Jewish Genealogical email group called JewishGen. Lots of folks on that email list live in Israel and list members are always helping each other find people. Try posting your request there and you will probably have a dozen responses. See this web site for how to sign up:

James and Pat CLISSOLD of Izmir, Turkey 1960's

My wife and I enjoyed greatly the friendship of Mr.& Mrs. James Clissold who both taught English as a foreign language in Izmir Turkey in the early 1960s. We accompanied them to England in l963. Not much later, James and Patricia, his wife, were teaching ELS in Africa. A rift in the marriage developed into divorce, Patricia marrying another of the British teachers there. James eventually returned to Turkey and taught ELS in Istanbul. After he left, we lost contact. I know this is a rather pitiful amount of informatioon, but I hope it is enough to identify him. Are you at all related? Do you know his whereabouts?

Anita Spindel

I taught with Anita for several years at Lorne School in Montreal. In 1968 we traveled to Europe together for a month. We boarded a German freighter from Montreal to Bremerhaven. We had a great time traveling and even spent some time in the London area with the woman who had been her mother's nurse. Anita went on to Israel and I returned to Montreal and I now live in Calgary.

She was a very dear friend to me and we corresponded for many years.

Looking for nephew of Max (Markus) EISEN, Israel

My grandfather's nephew got to Israel in the late 30s from Tyczyn, which is now in Poland.. We do not know his name, but the last name might be Blumenberg. His mother's maiden surname was Eisen. My grandfather (named Markus in Tyczyn) was her brother, and he had another brother named Moses and possibly one named Jacob, as well as some other siblings, we believe, including This an aunt named Rachel (Ruchel?) who lived in Paris. His grandfather married twice, and there was offspring from both marriages. He was found by a friend of my grandfather after the war, a man named Jack Krieger, but he never wrote to my grandfather or answered my gf's letter. My family would like to find him, if possible. He would be anywhere from his 70s to his 80s, we think.

Looking for relatives that emmigrated to Israel from Radzym, Russia. My tree starts with Nathan Turkeltaub and Feige Cohen. They had 7 children - 6 boys and 1 girl. I have identified some of the boys: Schlomo, Nechemyah, Joseph, and Max. Their daughter was Shriffra. I believe Schlomo's branch settled in Israel -His children were Mendel, Samuel, Natan, and Fela. His Grandchildren were Alex, Flora, Mira and Alex.
If anyone one knows of any Turkeltaubs in Israel I would appreciate a connection. Thanks Claudia

Israeli descendents of HECHEL, KAPLONSKY families orig. from Lithuania

Hello,
I am very much interested in finding any Israeli descendents of either Moshe and Tovah Kaplonsky or Frume Licht Hechel. The Kaplonsky family was originally from, I believe, Telshi/ Telsiai in Lithuania and emigrated to Israel before WWII. Frume Licht Hechel was from Laukava and Skaudvil, Lithuania and emigrated to Israel with her three sons Yeheskel, Eleazar and Israel also before WWII. Israel and Eleazar died young but Yeheskel married and had three sons. If you have any knowledge of families who have these names and are of Lithuanian Jewish origin, please contact Sara at endora257@aol.com.
James Cregan

Hello Diane
Thanks so very much for responding to my message! I would be interested to find out if he is indeed the same James Cregan although I am not even sure if that is the correct way to spell his last name...I was eight years old when we met there and I think he might have been a little bit younger than me. I am now twenty! So I am not sure he would have actually studied in israel. I'll keep in touch as well...thanks!
Tara
