Antonio italy WWII 12 yrs old haircuts to GIs

m trying to find a man or at least a proper italian spelling of his family name or proper Americanized version of his last name. I believe his first name was/is antonio. Last name is something that sounds like matuto, matutio, matucho, matuedo etc.... (The end of the story will explain the questions in the accuracy of the identifying details.).
He was in his early teens during World War 2 born probably in 1930 give or take a few years. His family I believe was from terlizzi, however Molfetta is a possibility. I believe he had 2 sisters, one of whom was named Rosa. Antonio became especially close to one of the I'm sure many allied American units stationed in the area at the time. They too became especially close to him watching out for him, giving him what they could etc. They would all also pay him to cut their hair so that he'd have money to take home to help his family. I believe his father died sometime during this time or shortly after because in the words of one veteran of the unit "on his death bed Antonio's father took his wedding ring off his finger and gave it to me and begged me to keep him safe and bring him to america after the war, but on a soldiers pay I couldn't afford to and I've lived with the guilt every day of my life since, but I still have that ring to this day." That gentleman never was able to attend any of the reunions the unit held so he never knew what happened to the young man until a few days ago when I was able to get a hold of him (one of only six still living in the unit of 450 men so far I've found). I was able to tell him however that several of the widows and children of the veterans I've spoken to told me that antonio did eventually immigrate to America. As a surprise that brought this small group of men who still met for reunions to tears Antonio showed up at one of the last reunions they held which I believe was held in ohio but possibly Pennsylvania with a beautiful wife from Kentucky. He was living in akron, ohio at the time and working in some capacity in the construction business. They haven't had a reunion since at least the 80's possibly the late 70's. Antonio might not still be living but there's a possibility he is since he was a young boy durin the time. I'd desperately like to find antonio or at least any living relative that I can but I'm having trouble figuring out a proper spelling of the last name that sounds like I've said above. And as you can imagine with everyone's age involved I'm very short on time to find him so if possible at all for you to spread this message somehow at the hopes anyone recognizes the story or has any ideas for last name possibilities I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give. I am a 28 year old girl from oklahoma and I am not related to the veteran mentioned in the story. i also knew nothing of ww2 until I started my journey last year of trying to learn about my grandfather and his service in Ww2, but all of his possessions he'd saved from his service were stolen many years ago and he died when I was six so I tracked his service records down and began looking for living veterans and mainly found their widows or children all of whom relayed this story. My grandfather was one however who was close to this boy and I would very much like to speak with him or his family so that I can hopefully learn more about my grandfather and all of the men/women who endured such a tragic time in our history but truly emerged as "Our greatest generation". Please help by doing anything you can and anyone with info can email me at logjaxbel@live.com or I'm in the phone book under Hiner in a small town called stillwater, Oklahoma, USA. Thanks for taking your time to read my email and doing what you can to help me before time runs out!

With all my gratitude,
Micah Hiner-smith
Stillwater, Oklahoma
Grandaughter of T-5 Sgt. Earl T. Fairchild (of Corpus Christi Texas at time of service) 435th signal construction battalion aviation a.k.a 435th signal company 1943-1945 serving in Egypt, N.
Hi Debbie, I have not lost touch with my mother. My mom lives about 70 miles from me, and we talk at the very least 3 time a week. I also see her, usually 1 to 2 weekends a month. We are very close.
That being said, my step father is very ill and is going through radiation therapy. My mother has been very busy taking him to his appointments. On top of that (I explained that my Grandmother had a stroke and is not up to her "normal" self anymore). Which leads to the man I know as my Granddaddy (the man who adopted my mom). He has some serious health issues, concerning his heart (he is actually having surgery today). My mother runs all of my Grandparents errands as well. She is crazy busy with everything going on. She does not have time for this search.
Ten years ago, my mother and I found out she was adopted. To be honest, we talked about it, and decided not to search for this biological Grandfather. As we were/are a happy family, an found no need to search. My mother felt complete.

Hind sight is always twenty/twenty, and, well, we should have begun the search back then. Three years ago, I became very ill, and was in and out of the hospital for some "unknown illness". It took months for them to figure out I had Graves Disease. All was good after diagnosis and I began treatment:-) 6 months ago, I fell ill again, back to the hospital- I was in and out, in and out. They have discovered I have some sort of pituitary gland issue, which is related to a genetic anomaly, or I have cancer.
My endocrinologist is leaning towards the genetic anomaly. As it stands right now, I/we are looking for the biological grandfather, and his family for medical information; perhaps one of them have this pituitary issue.
My endo is pushing for surgery to remove the gland (don't worry, I have had three opinions, they are all on the same page), and for me to start radiation treatment (my poor mom, she has so much to worry about). The problem, once that pituitary gland is gone, the average life expectancy is 10 years, due to complications from not having the gland. Ten years is great, but, if I can find the biological family, and they have this pituitary issue, I don't have to have it removed. I can just start medication treatment for the disease (I can't take the medication now, because if I have cancer, and not this anomaly, the cancer will spread faster).
Sorry this post is so gobbled, it is hard to explain everything.
My mother and I talked about birth certificates (my Granddaddy adopted my mom, so his name is on her birth certificate) and getting more info from Grandma and (the man I know) as Granddaddy, they are in such poor health, we don't want to add anymore stress to them. Plus my Grandmother more than likely doesn't remember anything.
I hope you have a better understanding of mom/me.. LOL, well actually I think I gave more info about me, than my mother:-))

Funny you should mention being an only child, as my mother is the only child to my Grandparents:-)
If you would like, I can send more personal information and pictures of my mother.. But would prefer to send it in a more private manner;-)
My email is madstudio@yahoo.com
my cell# 540-479-5380.
We are in Virginia:-)
My Moms name is Anna.
Thanks,
Sharon Osmon

I got to thinking, why have you lost touch with your Mom? Meaning, is she missing, so even if she was my sister, no one knows where she is. Does your Grandma have the birth certificate on your Mom where you could look and go thru paperwork on your Grandma. On your Mom's birth certificate, the father might have been listed. I guess my search for a sister, is very different than your search, for your Mom. I've never ever had a sister and didn't know I had one until my Dad was close to passing away. Your Mom you've always had, and for some unknown reason to me, you've always had a Mom and just have lost touch. I'd still love to know what your Mom's name is and maybe I can help you find her, just in case she is my sister. Try that birthcertificate. Oh well,,,,I didn't do any facebooking,,,,not sure about all that, and you are the first person who wrote. Night night, Debbie
How old is she, by the way?
The only link on your Mom's family link, is me, and my aunt who is min her eighties.
My Aunt Emmie (as well as my Grandma) had strokes (Grandma-three years ago/Emmie 5 years ago) Gotta love family genetics. Both have severe memory issues (my aunt Emmie can no longer read or write). Emmie has tried very hard to remember, but she just doesn't remember his name.
LOL, 5'10 is tallish:-) my grandma is only 5'3.. My mom is 5'8.

My mom took the DNA testing to hopefully find her paternal DNA link (father-family link).. We are hoping someone-anyone who is in this mans family has had some DNA testing done:-) If not, her DNA will be in a Data base, and if someone, in the future does DNA testing, and is related to her, she will have a link:-)
My mom was married to my father (he passed away several years back).. There are NO questions to my fathers link;-)
Thanks
Sharon

If your great Aunt Emmie met the biological father, wouldn't she know that his name was Morty, Mort or Mortimer?
That would seal the deal. He was handome, but only about
5' 10. What DNA would be run. I'm guessing you are referring to yourself and something about who your Mom might have been with, not my father.
Tag,
Debbie

My Great Aunt Emmie Met the father. She said he had green eyes:-) She also said he had light brown/dirty blonde hair, and was on the "tallish" side, and a very "pretty man":-). My Grandma has brown eyes, and my Mom has very pretty green eyes (No one else in the family line had green eyes).
My mom did do that DNA testing, so we should have results back in a few weeks.. I can't wait!! :-)
If you aren't getting anything here, and are on face book, they have a free group GI & family international search.. Lots of listings there as well:-)
This is a very hard search, as is was sooooo many years ago, and in Germany....

My Grandmother ended up marrying another American GI, and they (Grandma and my mom) Moved back to the US. The GI who married my Grandma adopted my mom:-)
Thanks,
Sharon Osmon
My Father Morty, had Hazel/brownish eyes. I guess if your Mom was my sister, then you'd be my neice. But, since he DEFINITELY didn't have green eyes, and never met the little baby, I wonder how you would know he had green eyes, 'for certain'. I don't think we are dealing with the same situation. I wish and hope Ana would be my sister. Hmmm,
Debbie

Hi, Gosh, a response.
He was in the Battle Of The Bulge, I believe that was 44/45ish. I would have to do more research to the City he was stationed in. I know I have a map of where he was, at my house, I'm at work. He also received a letter from the President due to all his honorable medals.
Good wishes to you, whomever you are. I'd love to get crazy excited that maybe you might be the sister he told me about at the later years of his life.
Warm wishes,
Debbie Jane Kert (Beardsley)

kmenscord17,
I am trying to find out if my grandparnets have any family still living in Hungary or Romania or else where. My grandfather Karl Kosmesky (American spelling) had a sister named Anna. She married Andras Vojo / Vajo. They had a son Tibor. I would like to know if Andras Vago is the same as Vojo / Vajo. My grandmother, "Gussie" Augusta (Ganger) Kosmesky sent a cash gift to Vago Andrasne in 1949. I would like to find family and swap family information. May be there is some information about Mrs. Andras Vago that would help me know if she is the sister of Karl? The father of Anna and Karl was Gabriel. Anna and Karl had other siblings: Gustav, Hermina, Emily and some others.
Thank you for replying to my post.
Mary (Kosmesky) Crabe

Janice
I am the grand daughter to Charles Grusonik son of Jacob grusonik and Aloyse Whatz (sp). Grandfather married my Grandmother Barbara Habyan in Walsenberg, Colorado at the catholic church feb,15, 1904. My grandmother had immigrated from Austria and came thru Ellis Island. Grandfather was a coal miner in Walsenberg and Mayne Colorado. He fathered three boys, Charles, John and my father William. I have dear friends who live in Walsenburg Colorado and had a chance to visit the catholic church and look at records. I found Lucia Grusovnik who died April
11, 1911. Grusovnik was changed to Grusonik over the years. There were Grusoniks who lived in New York (all deceased) and others including my brother sister and I who live in California. My uncle Charles Grusonik changed his last name to Sumner and there are cousins living in Montana with the name. I have heard the name Zupancic and also Poongratz thru the years. My father William passed away three years ago at age 92 and he was the last remaining child of Charles Grusovnik. I am interested in trying to trace both Grusovnik and Hayban back to Europe
My email is watkins3121@gmail.com please pass this information on to your friend

Johann F. Reck (my great grandfather) left Bremen, Germany and arrived New York City, USA on March 22, 1875. Around 1911/12 he along with most of his family moved to Newark, Ohio, USA. When he died on Feb. 27th 1914 a newspaper article in the Newark Advocate mentioned he had a brother and sister in Germany. Since the departure records of Bremen for that time no longer exist I have no idea where in Germany he came from. Are his relatives still in Germany? Are you reading this and thinking maybe it's the Johann you've been looking for too?

I know this is a long shot, but I'm desperate.

My aunt, Katherine Peters, was about 19 years old when she served as a nurse during WW2. She was working in a hospital somewhere near the Russian/Polish border when she went missing. Rumor has it that she and her fellow nurses were captured and taken to Siberia but nobody knows for sure. My mom's family moved to Canada after the war and in spite of much searching, could never find Katherine.

The mystery of what happened to my aunt has haunted my mom for over 60 years and we would desperately like to know what happened to her. Her birthday was January 22, 1925. Her parents were Peter and Katherine Peters (nee Bergen). If anybody has any information on her we would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks!

I am not sure who you are looking for but Stefan Bozsik Sr was my father who passed away a few years ago. My broth is also Stefan Bozsik. He is 57 years old. Could this be the one?
Best
Eva Maria Bozsik
Emb@corcoran.com

child of Walter Alexander MOORE, Jr. (Steffy) born in Germany

Looking for possible sibling. My father was stationed in Germany in 1951 and may have had a child, unsure if she is from the US or Germany. Walter A. Moore, Jr., was born 2/29/1932 and was married twice before my mother. I found this photo and she looks very much like my father. The back says Steffy 1954. Would love to know if she is a sibling and she would be very welcome into my family!

Yes, i think she is older too. His history was so hush hush in my family. I didnt find out he was married twice before until I was quite older and he had passed away. I am thinking he bought her the outfit in Germany. Ive not been able to find out much about the past wives and their names are rather common so no luck so far!
