This is Willie's boxing record. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=252325&cat=box...

The Joe Louis film was Spirit Of Youth which was released in January 1938 but which would have been made in 1937.

Louis was in his mid 20's and at the height of his powers, in the film he played a character called Joe Thomas.

The film version of the fight went to 10 or 11 rounds, but most of the supposed earlier rounds were omitted from the film version.

The real fight version for the film went to three rounds, and Willie fought it as a real fight, hoping to K.O. Louis and gain a shot at the title as a result, and he did knock Louis down once, but Louis K.O.'d Willie in round three.

Willie wasn't given a screen credit in the film, but he is independently listed as being an unnamed boxing opponent of Louis in that film, and I think that he played the character of Jack Stanley in the boxing match at the climax of the film, neither the character of Jack Stanley nor the person who played him was given screen credit in the film.

However, Willie's actions earned him a lot of respect and admiration in Hollywood and won him a part in the 1937 Spencer Tracy film Big City for which he wasn't given a screen credit, and he supposedly played Jack Dempsey, but Jack Dempsey played himself in that film, but Willie might have doubled for Dempsey.

Joe Louis later said that he would never forget that fight with Willie.

The Thomas/Stanley fight scene starts at the 1 hour 5 minute 45 second point in the film.

You can watch the film on this URL http://tinyurl.com/ojjf4n6

You can download and save the film by copying and pasting that URL into the URL download box on the following site. http://en.savefrom.net/ if you see an advert that tries to get you to download some version of Java just ignore it, you don't need that.

You can watch The Big City here http://tinyurl.com/ppu7dcu there is a mass fight scene at around the 1 hour 15 minute point and Jack Dempsey appears in that scene and there were a lot of pro boxers in that scene.
