Hi,
Is there any way I would be able to find info on a patient (inmate)that was there back in the 1930's and 1940's ? I found her in the 1940 census which said she was also there in 1935. I can not find anything on her except in that census and the 1925 census when she was living with her husband before she was committed. Any info on where to search next or how to obtain records from there, I appreciate !!

Hi,

I have the same query for a great aunt who was in the Manhattan State hospital for that period as well. I would be grateful if you can pass on any further info.

Regards

I read that there is open senate legislation in NY S2514 I think that is supposed to provide at least the date of death and place of burial of patients at the state hospitals. I believe it is sponsored by a legislator named Roach and co sponsored by someone named Nozzolio. In Jan of 2014, if I understand correctly it was referred to the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Committee.
I don't live in NY but have a relative, Carey Adams Knight,
that died at Binghamton State Hospital in the 1930's. I would be happy just to know when he died and if he is in a grave not just dumped somewhere.
I wonder if anyone who does live in NY could contact their state legislator to see what the status of this bill might be and if we old timers will live long enough to see it pass. thanks.

I have found that the person I was looking for in the Manhattan State Hospital was not my great aunt after all as I have now traced her family descendants. All the best in your research.
Thanks
