Hallo, I´m from Slovakia. I look for some information about family Holik. I interested about descendant in America, because my mother´s grandfather had a sister and she and her husband with children departed in america in last century.
She´s maiden name was Palovic and she was Maria, her husband was Holik, but I don´t know his name. I know that they had 7 children .
We have one photography at home from new cansington?-it´s very hard to read .
And my english is not very well, I learn english language only 2 years.
I found one message from nan rogers, i think it can be person who i look for, ? but she (he) doesn´t write me.

I am the great granddaughter of a Barbarie Holik that came to America during 1914.
Many of her names have been misspelled throughout several census recordings. She married a John Lutzo from either Hungary or Checkislovakia(spelled wrong).
They had three children Anna, John and Barbara Helen. Anna had two girls, Barbara Weldon and Mary Jane Weldon.
Searching for Barbarie's family in Hungary.
If you have any information that would help connect the family, please let me know.
Thank you.

Do you have Barbara's place of birth?
Birds of a feather fly together. They married within region, religion [few exceptions] but for sure common language to communicate in.
Up to 1918 it was Austria-Hungary

The manifest that I have for Borbala Holik is for Scharnhorst - Sailing from Bremen
It showed her at that time, age 17,
Ethnicity Hungary, Ruthenian,
Place of Residence was O. Komorocz, Hungary.

I have just begun my journey on this search. Thank you for providing the maps and even more information. So interesting to read the history of the different countries.

I am unable to find any marriate records as of yet, nor the actual birth certificate. Hopefully, it won't be long before I do! There are several other websites to research.

Next search will be a phone call to my Aunt Mary, then cousin Carol Jean.

Thanks again for the information. This is great!

I am sorry I did not reply earlier.
Thank you for the information you have given me in researching my family ancestry.
I have not found anything that has been able to help me other than asking my mother and her sister about the family names and places. They have given me a few hints (including the fact that some of their relatives lived in the Chicago area!
Apparently no one ever spoke of the past, and they have very few details to date.
Again, I appreciate the time you've taken and I will pursue all clues with due diligence!

You're welcome.
So it would seem that your ancestor came from Ruthenia www.cgsi.org which is part of Ukraine.
You might want to post on Ukraine's board as well as http://genforum.com www.ukraine.com/forums/genealogy
www.infoukes.com/genealogy

You might want to send a request to the church the ancestor was married and had the children baptized.

Have you found your ancestors on US census? The 1930 census should have a notation Na-naturalized: Al-alien or Pa-first paper.
