My ancestors Joseph & Isabella (Fraser) Stewart were married Nov 30, 1840 in Old Machar, Aberdeen. They came to Canada in 1841 and settled in Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario. Port Dover is on Lake Erie of the Great Lakes. Their 1st child was born Feb. 4, 1842 in the Port Dover area and baptised at St John's Anglican Church, Feb. 1842.
Does anyone have knowledge as to how the ship(s) could make it into Lake Erie since the railway did not exist. Did they come into New York via the Erie Canal then into the Lake? Are there ships lists in Aberdeen for 1841?

As to your query about ships from Aberdeen, there were two ships sailed: 1 to New York and the other to docked in Quebec City. My ancestors were on this boat. Only records I found, were there were 76 souls on board. My ancestors traveled overland from Quebec to Hamilton.
Hope this helps. George
