I saw your post, but I do not have any information of the family you are looking for. However, I thought you would be interested in this book if you can find a copy:

"Hawaiian Ordeal - Ukrainian Contract Workers 1897-1910" by Michael Ewanchuk (self-published 1986) ISBN 9690768.

It contains discussions of several immigrant groups that were deceived and recruited for work on the plantations. There are several references/maps re Harbin/Siberia. I picked my copy up in a Ukrainian bookstore in Winnipeg a few years ago. My interest was the mention of Russian Molokans (my heritage) who were recruited from Los Angeles and San Francisco and enticed to settle in Hawaii about the same time. I checked Amazon and Powells and did not see any copies available. I suggest you check a library or look for a Ukrainian organization in your neighborhood.

Since you have the ISBN number, try a really great website that searches multiple sites:

Read your request on finding your family. Part of my family were Czech, Russian and Scandinavian from New York City and Brooklyn. I know their is a large population of Russian Immigrants in Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana. I also lived at one time in San Francisco. Their are alot of Russian Immigrants their. If your ancestry is from Siberia, where I believe part of my mother's heritage is from because of our relatives have strong Asiatic features, you will love this book called Natasha. It is a biography of Natalie Wood and it talks about her parents who migrated to California from Siberia, thru China. We hear so much negativity and bigotry from the American Media in reguards to the Russian Immigrants. This book is so well written it makes me think how durable the Russian and Slovak immigrants really are. Hope you find your family.

His Name as he spelled it was paul Roydnick, he wrote in 1930 census that his father was from Riga and he spoke Czeck, Paul told his son that he drove cattle with his brother across the Volga river , and walked to church in Moscow with there shoes off and put them off right before they entered the church. Also how they would wrap there food in leaves to preserve it. HE came here as far as I know in 1912 and told his son he left before the war. He never spoke of his family except he never knew his mother and his fathers name was James and he was from Riga, and spoke CZech. if you can shed any light on this time and what might have transpired to get him here it would be of great help Thanks carol. Hi rose,
My family also came from that same route. I've been trying to find any of my Russian family. Their last name is Lelikoff-Lelicoff. I only have a little bit of info on them.

Leonard is pictured in the yearbook of the Army Air Force Advanced Flying School at Foster Field on Matagorda Island, Texas. He is part of the 65th Base Headquarters staff. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching the RODNICK family.
