So Pedro was born where exactly in Spain? And Justina de Costa was born in China? Was she Spanish or something? Or Filipina born in China?

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
Hello, pedro could have been born in Navarre Spain. I havent found any records on him only stories from family members.he was basque and was exiled to the philippines for some crome he committed. Justina was born in hongkong. She was part Portuguese and Chinese. She and her husband Antonio lived in the Caroline islands and eventually returned to Manila.

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
I would like to learn more about the Basque diaspora which I know some eventually ended up in the Philippines in the recent years. Recent meaning late 1800s prior to 1898. Especially since these people seemed to have settled near to Manila.
Interesting about the Portuguese Chinese which I was going to say before that the surname, if it was da Costa, would definitely not be Filipino nor Spanish in origin but Portuguese, but being descendants of Portuguese outside of Brazil or Portugal, it definitely could be any variation of the standard Portuguese surname.

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
What records have you used to get Antonio's birthdate? You should look into the Family History Center (FHC) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in order to see what type of records they have for where Antonio was born. The baptism of Antonio may indicate a specific place where his father was from, or not. And see if the FHC has different types of immigration records. I thought the National Archives of the Philippines have these but I never had the need to look into those at all.

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
I was able to get antonio's and Justina's date of birth and death on their tombstone. And the wedding certificate of their eldest daughter which indicates Antonio was from puerto galera Mindoro and Justin's from hongkong. I have gone to the fhc but no luck in finding anything on antonio's birth or baptism records. Justina is even harder for the records from hk were in Chinese. My hope is finding something on Antonio which will tell me where his parents where from. The archives would be an ideal place to search but their documents are so incomplete

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
Fhc records don't have a complete file on puerto galera and some don't go as far as 1859

Re: zulueta/zoloeta from spain
Ok, if nothing for Antonio, look for a birth certificate for a sibling of his in order to see if names and origins of his parents are mentioned.
