I am a direct descendant of Elizabeth Waltermire (Waldenmeyer). Her father was Georg (Jury) Waldenmeyer. She married John A. Garrett, son of Thomas of Great Nine Partners in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rhinebeck. From the dates they are part of the Palatines. I have searched for untold hours for more on John Garrett. I now believe that his father or grandfather might be the Palatines who first went to Ireland or England and then the US. I also am beginning to think the name was Gerrit or double t. Does anyone have information that would help in my search? John A. was born in 1747.Elizabetha was born in 1747 and was baptized in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rhinebeck (Stone Church)
Thank you.

I don't have info on your surname but I might be able to give you ideas for where to find more on the Palatines to NY

First you can check out names of Palatines from England to NY at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/pal_engtony.shtml

There are aslo Palatine Child Apprentices 1710-1714 and Palatine Denizations (Naturalizations) 1708 online (free databases) Use the links at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/pal/

Have you checked Hank Jones book on Palatines to NY? It's an excellent resource and one I would check first!

Hi again

I had a quick look at some bpt records - because often the witnesses/sponsors were relatives. So I suggest you start gathering all the bpt records you can find for this family. Then look at the sponsors and see how/if they connect.

Here's a few I found:

Child: Mally
Bapt. Date: 7 Jan 1773
Parents: John Garret; Elisabeth Waldemejer
Sponsors: Georg Proper, & wife; Berbel Diderich
Source: Baptismal Record of St Pauls (Zions) Lutheran Church, Red Hook

Child: Elisabeth
Bapt. Date: 1 Jan 1768
Parents: John Gerret; Elisabeth
Sponsors: Bastian Weger; Cathar. Waldemeyer
Comment: 6 weeks old
Source: Baptism Record of St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg
St Paul's Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg: 1760-1902
Location: Town of Rhinebeck, Dutchess County --- Denomination: Lutheran

I'm also suspicious that this might be your couple - note the spelling of his surname

Child: Michael
Birth Date: 2 Sep 1780
Bapt. Date: 15 Oct 1780
Parents: John Gerhard; Eliesabeth
Sponsors: Michael Waldemeyer; Eliesabeth Marquart
Source: Baptism Record of St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg
St Paul's Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg: 1760-1902
Location: Town of Rhinebeck, Dutchess County --- Denomination: Lutheran

I'd also look for John and Elizabeth acting as sponsors for OTHER people's children's bapt. Try to figure out what other families they were associated with

Hope this helps!
Lorine

I've found that given name Gerrit (and variant spellings) is Dutch.

Surnames: Garrett, Waldenmeyer
Hello,

I am not sure if you will get this as your post is quite old. I have just discovered that I am a direct descendant of Elizabeth Waldenmeyer. I am headed back to New York for genealogy work on her husband, John Garrett and his family line.

I am interested to know if you have found any additional information on John A, Thomas or the first Garrett to arrive in American Colonies.

I am also interested in finding more about the Waldenmeyer line. Do you have Elizabeth's parent's name and vitals?

Thank you,

Valerie

Hi!
Yes, my post is old and when I changed my email address I forgot to update. Tonight was just going back to looking over some info and found this post of yours. I don't know if you did go into NY and check out things there. We did a few years back. Still have a cousin from the Tompkins side I correspond with from time to time. So much history involves these families in NY . I have more info on the Garretts and would find it and give it to you if you are interested. I saw a site tonight that had a lot of the Waldenmaier info. It listed that it had John and Elizabeth but when I went to it, that was missing ! Don't know why. Here is the site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~saylormowb... I also have pictures of many gravestones in the Medway Christian Cemetery from when we went up. I grew up in NJ and now live in GA. The Garrett side is my Mom's through her Dad. Hope to hear from you.
