We are trying to research family that lived in the San Giovanni a Teduccio area of Naples. We have already contacted a genealogist in Naples but he told us that church records were not available for the time period we wish to research. We have already traced the family to 1710 and he felt that we had gone as far back as possible because church records are not available. . Do you believe his opinion is correct? What are the resources we would access in Naples? The family surname is Paudice.

It could be true - most parishes in Italy started recording BMDs in either 1563 or 1595, but not all of them, and you also have to consider the possibility of lost or destroyed records. Really depends on the location. If you don't trust a genealogist in Naples to have accurate info about how far back local parish records go, all you can do is write to the parish and directly and ask.
