Well, if he had to spend five years in Kentucky, he would have left some trace and there would be family records of it. I'm now shifting to "probably not" in this case. Thanks!
He had many, many spellings and misspellings of his first and last names. I have a document signed by him, so I know how he preferred it, but even his wife spelled it differently. And Good quality documents place his birth year at five different dates.
However, one of my relatives may have found his naturalization papers in Ohio, so that may solve everything.
