Now that they have changed the Ellis Island searching tool, (frankly downright horrid search tool) I was wondering if anyone has knowledge that you can search by years instead of name through Ellis Island itself? Have been doing genealogy research for several years now and have hit the wall with one relative. Know that she and 2 children entered the US in 1903 before 2 older sons and then husband and one daughter in 2 separate arrivals a year later. Have done multiple searches using different variations of the last name she was probably using without success. If I had the ability to look through the years manifest, I might just find it! Any suggestions? Thanks! Sherry

Sherry, whom do you seek? Name, year and place of birth?

I am looking for a female birth date ~1858 Hebrew from Czernowitz/Bukovina Austria traveling with 2 children. Arrived US, Ellis Island sometime in late 1902-early 03.
Using possible name of Taube Prostak, older daughter Fannie age~17, Charles age 4. Don't know who would've met her as she arrived before other children and husband who arrived late 1903 and 04. I have looked at ALL Prostak listings without any hits. Have tried different spellings without success. Tried different ports instead of Bremen. Sons left out of Amsterdam, Husband out of Bremen. I guess the next option would be to check all the boat manifests looking for any women arriving that would've been detained for a family member to pick them up. We know she was here as Taube Prostak because she picked up her minor sons under that name in July 1903 even though she was married- last name Gottlieb. Both sons came in under her maiden name of Prostak but husband and second girl came in under Gottlieb in May 1904. Any suggestions?

I find a Taube Prostack with children coming into NY on the Record of Detained Alien Passengers arriving Nov 24, 1902 on board the Potsdam. Could her spouse used the name Moses?

No that Taube Prostak, who is married to Moses, is not the relative.
What I did find by doing another group of change names not even close was find her on the exact same ship and date!!
She is listed as Taube Prostag, page 210 on the manifest for the US Rottsdam out of Rotterdam leaving Nov 14, 1902 and arriving NY Nov 24, 1902. Zacharis and then one line down is her daughter, Freme/Frume Prostag. Years I have been searching for them. Pretty certain this is them else pretty coincidental.
Thanks for the search help!

I saw that one too. With these European names, one needs to accept less than perfection. The data is only as good as the recorders ability and the sources memory.
