Can anyone tell me if the S.S. Elisabeth van Belgie came to the port of New York in either June or July of 1918?

It arrived in NYC on 18 Jul 1918 having sailed from Rotterdam on 4 Jul 1918. The ship's manifest is available on Ancestry.com. Don

Thank you SO SO much for the information. I've been searching the 7 seas for a passenger list for this ship. I have not found any manifest for the Elisabeth van Belgie on Ancestry, or anywhere else. How did you find the information on this particular voyage? How did you access it? I believe my relative was a crew member on that ship, on that voyage. Would their name be listed on the manifest? Entering my relative's name has not brought up this manifest. Perhaps he was traveling under an alias. I could probably figure out an alias he might have used, if I were able to view the manifest on Ancestry. Would you be able to provide me with the name that allowed you/led you to access this manifest on Ancestry? This is so exciting. It might solve an age old mystery and end 8 months of searching for this information.

I did not use any name. I went to Immigration and Travel and then on the right side of the page clicked on Passenger lists. I then searched only by date and place of departure and arrival and entered the name of the ship at the bottom in the keyword block. The names of the passengers will come up in alphabetical order but you can click on any name to take you to the actual manifest. Good luck. Don

Bless you. I've now learned how to search passengers by ship name, not passenger name. My relative was not on the crew manifest. Nonetheless, it has probably allowed us to eliminate one possible scenario for his emigration. I have seen images of the S.S. Elisabeth van Belgie and it obviously was a cargo ship. I thought that cargo ships had a few passengers onboard, as well as the cargo crew. I couldn't find any passenger portion on the manifest pages. Maybe he was a passenger and not a crew member. Did I miss something or were there no passengers on that voyage? Your generosity of assistance is laudable. Thank you.

I don't think you missed anything. The same ship arrived at least 5 other times in 1918 and the only list in all of them is the crew list, so we can assume she carried no passengers. Sorry.

I am indebted that you took the time to view the other manifests, for the S.S. Elisabeth van Belgie in the year 1918, to be able to answer my question. Again, thank you very much. The fact that my relative was not on the crew list for the July voyage was still very helpful to my research and has narrowed down the possibilities. The elimination of information is just as important as the addition of information in arriving at a final product. Good luck to you in all your research.

Maybe if you posted what you know about your ancestor, someone could help. There are quite a few persons who donate their time and effort to help others on these boards, most more knowledgeable than I.
