Lutzhoft Family in Paterson New Jersey

Surnames: Lutzhoft
I'm doing some research for a friend, and I hope you can help me. His maternal grandmother Eleanor Evelyn Lützhoft was born February 27th 1913 in Paterson, New Jersey, and according to the information when she's confirmed in 1927 in Denmark, she was baptized at home January 12th 1915, her parents belonging to Calvary Methodist Church in Paterson.
Her parents should be Theodor Christian Lutzhoft and Ellen Josephina....they die in 1915 and 1916, according to the information I have. I believe him to be Danish, and possibly born on March 13th 1884, but I can't find his emigration from Denmark or immigration to the US. I hope somebody can help me with this - and possibly also with confirming the birth/baptism of Eleanor Evelyn Lutzhoft, and the deaths of her parents.

Many regards, Laila in Denmark....

Hi,

I did take a look for you and could not find Theodor Christian Lutzhoft on any passenger records at all. In fact, the only US record I found that may possibly be him was a Christian Lutzhoft listed as a fireman in the Paterson NJ directories for 1913 - 1916. Not much help, I know. And I only found one politietsregister for him dated 9 May 1906 which only gives one address and then 'udtrukket' on Nov 1 1906. The address is Rebekkavej 13 so I looked at the 1906 census for that address. I didn't find Theodor there, but there was a family that consisted of Aksel Peter Lutzhoft Christiansen, his wife Camilla and daughter Kamma - relatives?

You've probably already found the birth/baptism record for Theodor Christian 'Lytzhøft ' born 13 March 1884 in Kongens Lyngby parish? Parents were Hans Christian Lytzhøft and Kirsti Nilsson, who were married (Gladsaxe sogn) 8 May 1881.

Do you have Eleanor Evelyn Lutzhoft's confirmation record? Does it give her mother's maiden name? Do you know if Ellen Josephina was American or Danish? That information may help in searching the records.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help,

J Murphy

Thank you so much for your reply....after I posted this, I actually found his naturalization record in the Passaic County Clerks Office. According to this, he indeed was a fireman, so Theodor Christian Lutzhoft and Christian Lutzhoft must be the very same person. This record also states that he came to the US July 9th 1912 on the ship Hellig Olav from Copenhagen, and he was naturalized as an American citizen November 5th 1913.
I've also found his birth in Kongens Lyngby on March 13th 1884, but thanks once more....
I've also found him in the Politiregister, but as you have, only on Rebekkavej in 1906. I'm not quite sure yet if he's related to the Aksel Peter Lutzhoft Christiansen family, but I think so - the name Lutzhoft isn't very common in Denmark either.
Finally, no I don't have the surname on Eleanor Evelyn's mother...it only says Ellen Josephina when shes confirmed in Ugerlose Church in 1927. She was placed in fostercare with farmer Hans Christiansen and his wife Ane Kristine in Brandholt, Ugerlose parish in Denmark, after her parents died when she was very little. They are not related to Theodor Christian Lufthoft but might be to the mother ? I'm pretty sure now that Ellen Josephina must be Danish as Eleanor Evelyn is born 7½ months after Theodor Christian arrived at New York in July 1912. So most likely Ellen Josephina arrived together with him.

Again, thanks so much for your help and interest
