My northern German ancestors arrived at Castle Garden in May 1884 en route to Chicago. By September 1885 the parents were deceased and only the mother (and several children) show up in Illinois death records, obituaries and Concordia Cemetery records. This leads me to believe the father may have died before reaching Chicago.
