I see your request was in 1207 but I just saw it now.
I have a Patrick Connel about 25 living with Patrick O'Neill
and his wife and daughter in Alfred Allegany New York in
a for free Inhabitants home that I just found 2 days ago.
Not sure about the free inhabitants bit but imagine its because they immigrated and there were also 3 other men
in this group. This was the 1850 census of New york.
O'Neill's and O'Connells settled in Ops township, Victoria County Ontario after leaving New |York.
These were my husbands great grandparents. I hope you see this message.
Diane O'Neill Lindsay, Ontario Canada

We recently found in a census report that our oldest ancester Christian Baughman was born in Ireland, but resided in Bald Eagle Valley, Huntingdon Co., Pa. (now Snyder Twp., Blair Co., Pa.) I think his parents were part of the Palatine group sent to Ireland by the Queen of England. There was a Christopher Baughman immigrated to the same area and naturalized in 1802 from Prussia - probably a relative. The surname could have been Bachmann/Bachman. Have you tried the PALAM.ORG website?
Jerry Baughman

Hmm...very interesting. I'm glad to hear of someone else with a similar sort of ancestor. I'll keep an eye out as I check things out for anything that could possible be related to Patschet. Pennsylvania Dutch/Low German made for some very interesting spelling in records.

hello, this may be a wild goose chase but you never know. some of my ancestors were named cavanaugh and were from ireland but i don't know where. the name is michael cavanaugh and he was supposed to have arrived in the states in the 1850's. he travelled across the country and finally settled in leavenworth, kansas. he and some of his family also lived in platte county, missouri (just across the state line from kansas. he was a stone mason. he might have been from ballylea, co. wexford, ireland. any information would certainly help. thanks in advance.

Depp has Alsatian origin. Daub has Lausatian origin. During the Palatine Exodus, many mistakes in name registration occurred while entering or leaving ports. They may have been mistaken as the same name in Ireland.
I am looking for a surname that had changed through 3 generations in Pennsylvania! Patschet to Patsches to Patches or Patchit.
Arriving in Pennsylvania before 1840 from Ireland, William Patschet spoke a german dialect. I wonder what his last name may have been before 1709, as I have not found any similar surnames on the Irish Palatine lists.

Irish Palatines immigrating to America?

I'm not sure if this is an absurd idea, but is there any chance that some of the Irish Palatines who were sent to Ireland in 1709 immigrated to America in later generations? I know some ended up in Canada. I have two surnames in my family tree that appear to be overtly German intermarried in Pennsylvania with original Pennsylvania Dutch Palatine immigrants but originate in Ireland in the late 1700s (1770s). One name, in particular, is Depp. Any chance it could be a skewed version of the Irish Palatine family Daub/Daupe/Doube/Doupe/Dobe/Dope.

William H. Faught was actually William Haughton Faught, son of Michael Faught and Mary Hifle (Highfield). His brother was named John Highfield Faught, thus the confusion. Michael and Mary were married in Kilkenny and may have been part of the Palatine community that settled in the Kilkenny/Tipperary area.

Michael and family were in Dublin in the 1850s. He was a shoemaker/bootmaker as were other Faughts. William married Rebecca Ann Walker in 1861 and they had a child, Margaret, in 1862. He left Ireland sometime before 1868 (John died in 1866). Don't know if he deserted his wife and daughter or whether they had died by then but he married my gggrandmother in New York City in 1869 (and deserted her less than 10 years later).

Does anyone have information on this branch of the Faughts?

Hi, the name of my father's family is Hollinger. On Canadian census records they are identified as being from Ireland, and are all protestant..as protestants and because of the German sounding names I am beginning to wonder if they were palatine irish but am unable to find the record of this name anywhere associated with palatine irish. Just wondering if anyone has made this connection. Judy

Info on GG Grandparents

I am looking for info on my GG grandfather who I believe is a Palatine. I can’t find any info on his parents to confirm this. Charles Piper (Pyper) B 1811 Negagh, Tipperary. D Nov 16, 1883 Stonleigh, ON Canada. He came to Canada in 1845. M 1837 to Margaret Armstrong D 1843, children James 1939-1840, William 1841-1919 (came to Canada with his father and step mother)M 1844 Elizabeth Ardel (Ardell) B 1823 Borrisoleigh, Tipparary. children John 1847-1878, James 1849-1899, Charles 1850- , Rebecca 1853-1876, George ( my g grandfather) 1855-1914, Richard 1857-1940 , Joseph 1859-1928, Francis 1862-1864, Francis #2 1866-1878.
I have been told Charles fathers name was also Charles B 1780, but I can’t confirm. The 1851 Canadian census lists the last name as Pyper, and says they are Church of England. One story we were told was he was protestant and she was catholic and that is why they came to Canada. I can’t find any info on Elizabeth’s family other than her brother Thomas B 1821 also came to Canada with he and Charles. Can anyone help me find the missing link to parents or as to if they were Palatines or not.
Kelly Lee Craig killer@ntl.sympatico.ca

My g. grandfather was a private in the Leinster Regiment and travelled around a lot. His daughter Kaitleen was born in Dover in 1901 and his son William in Wicklow in 1903. A further daughter Margaret was born in 1906 in Pretoria, South Africa and twins Patrick and Elizabeth in 1909 in Devonport, Devon.

Any help tracing this man would be greatly appreciated.

I believe he was born in Wicklow and married Catherine Hughes in Rathgar Chape in 1896. They turn up in the 1911 census in Dublin.

I know he moved to Greenock in Scotland with all his family, including 2 other sons James and Andrew. He died in 1943 in Greenock. His parents and Patrick Tracey (aka Treacy) and May (I think!)

Regards
Lynn

He immigrated ~1894 (according to census records) but I cannot find him anywhere in Passenger lists and such. His siblings Mary, Patrick, Bridget, Margaret, Phillip, Ellen, and Thomas all came to the US as well (settled in Chicago). They did not apparently come at the same time, but again - can't find any of them. Where are the most likely ports that I should be concentrating on? I am 99.99% sure they did not come through Ellis Island/New York.
Thanks

I am trying to find out more information about Frederick Mayberry. This family is said to have been German and to have come to NJ sometime before 1750. Curiously they ended up in Bedford County Virginia where Frderick and his so Henry signed a petition in a Presbyterian church. Many of the other signers of the petition appear to be Irish or Scot or both judging by their surnames (Kennedy, Campbell, Armstrong, Dooley)
My theory is that this Mayberry family might well be part of the Palatine group settled in Ireland who came to America with other peopel who lived around them.
Is anyone of aware of a Palatine German family named something that would translate to Mayberry?

Valerie Reese
Re: St. John/Sohn/Son

Genealogist Henry Jones has at least 3 books on Palatine families. They mention the families in Ireland on these lists and they do include St John. He puts forward that Son and Sohn are likely pre names of St John. Elias for one, along with his brother arriving in the early 1700s in Ireland. Because of their livelihood (grapevine and wine making) they were likely Hugonauts who had left France for Germany before they became Palatine emmigrants.

Paltine families of Ireland were from the German Rhine region. Early in the 1700's they immigrated to Ireland and settled for a time. Many headed to America and Canada after that, probably other places as well.
Lord Southwell settled a bunch in Rathkeale in County Limerick, Ireland. Another estate was the Adare or Adair, though I am not sure which county this was.
Here's a list of the names that were included in the Irish Name Book and the County Limerick Name book for Palatines.
GRAHAM or HOUGHTALIN families migrating with Palatines from Ireland

I have hit a brick wall with my Graham and Houghtalin ancestors. I have evidence leading me to suspect a connection to Palatines from Ireland--in particular, the Embury family who traveled to NY from Limerick in 1760 and later settled in Fredericksburg, Ontario.

My earliest confirmed Graham ancestor is James Sweet Graham b. abt 1824, believed to be the son of William Henry Graham and Pattey Sweet. Have been unable to find any trace of William Henry or Pattey's origins.

My earliest confirmed Houghtalin ancestor is William Houghtalin who married Mary Davy in 1818 in Fredericksburg. I also have been unable to trace William Houghtalin's origins.

Would appreciate any information/assistance.

Sincerely,
Jeannie Graham
