I am looking for information concerning italian immigrants who came in United Kingdom during 1830 to 1875. Which are the archives I can consult for informations about them.

The man I am looking for is Antonio Ingolotti and he came probably from Genoa.

It would interesting to see from exactly what part of Italy he really come from and if his parent's name are mentionned.

I am still researching my Italian Families steps that they had taken when leaving Cassino in Frosinone, Italy.
They always lived and followed the rest of the Italian Communities whilst travelling. The Head of the Family had different occupations at different times and places. When they were in Bristol, he was a Street Musician, in Edinburgh a Street Musician, Restauratuer and Ice Cream maker, and in Dublin a Ice Cream maker, Street Musician and Cafe Owner.

I would like to share information with anyone who has this similar path with their Ancestors?

Names of my Ancestors from Cassino are:

Capaldi/Capaldo
Tedesco
Minchella
Di Placido
Franchitto
Tamilio
Tomasso/Tomassi
Verrecchia
Marrocco
Carmasino
Costantino
Niro
Polini

Names connected to my Ancestors are:

Di Mambro
Valente
Colacicco
Arpino
Caringi
Macari
Innelli
Ambrosino
Di Cola
Cordani
D'Agostino
Di Giacca
Lanni
Neri
Pacitto/Pacitti
Risi
Salera
Sigliocolo
Velardo
Torrice
Venditelli

Look forward to replies!

Jamie Capaldi

I am not in Manchester anymore, but if you have suspicions about the background of somebody who could be Italian, you should ask him to see a copy of his ID document (driving licence, passport, etc.) and then check his name on the internet.

I wouldn't invest any money with somebody who wouldn't let me show his ID. Plus, if you know his full name, date and place of birth, you can ask the Italian Ministry of Justice for a "certificato penale", which is the equivalent of a British CRB check.

Italians in UK

Hello everybody,

I found this website while trying to find some ropes on how to trace heirs of persons of Italian descent who died in the UK and left behind their estates.

After watching some episodes of "Heir Hunters" on BBC and finding out that there are quite a handful of Italian (or Italian sounding) family names in the list published in the "Bona Vacantia" website, I have been thinking about how to use my personal experience to track down possible relatives and descendants of the deceased, probably still living in Italy and totally unaware that a distant relative passed away in the UK and left them his earthly belongings.

The problem I have stumbled upon is that there is no trace of birth certificates registered in the GRO index for the majority of names that caught my attention (likely because they were all born abroad), and without knowing their age at death it's impossible to get their death certificate, and with it the precious information that could bring about the whereabouts of their respective place of origin and surviving relatives.

I am therefore willing to help any probate researcher who would like to join forces with me in unearthing connections between the deceased and their estranged families.

Best regards to all,
Arturo.

Arturo, I have an acquaintence with whom I have made a substantial investment and have been researching his credentials. I can find no record of his birth and note that he has spent considerable time in Manchester. Since I have a considerable investment and he appears unwilling to divulge any pertinent information I grow a little suspicisous. He is Italian per his accent, and by admission was born in Agrigento, Italy but there exists no records of that. This man can not be over the age of 58, which I find puzzling. I love research and your request appeals to me.
Bernadette

Italian Great Grandfather

Hi there everyone.

I'm searching for my Great Grandfather which is proving very difficult as my Grandmother doesn't have much information on him at all. I've been searching the immigration records as I know he was Italian. I'd be grateful of any hints or tips, any other avenues I can explore.

The only information I have on him is on my Grandmothers marriage certificate and is as follows;

Name: What looks like 'Plomolo' or more likely 'Romolo' Gerome Weston, and I believe underneath that it reads 'deceased', so he wouldn't have been around in 1953 when my Gran was married at 17 years old.

It also says that his occupation was a coal miner. My Gran knows that he died young, possibly around the age of 35.

I would be really grateful for any help as my Gran would love to find some information on him as she doesn't really remember him and obviously doesn't know much about him.

Thanks everyone!

I am trying to trace the origins of Charles Festorazzi who was born about 1808 in Italy. I believe he came from the north of Italy, around the Como area.

I would like to know exactly when he arrived in England. Was he with friends or family or did he arrive alone and why?

He married Charlotte Langridge on 26 Dec 1831 in Tonbridge, Kent and they had eleven children. (Well that's all I've found so far)

He died in Tunbridge Wells on 12 Dec 1886

He appears on all the census from 1841 - 1881.

On the census forms it always says he was born in Italy, so I cannot understand why he is called Charles and not Carlo.
It's Charles on his marriage record, his death certificate and all his children's birth certificates after 1837.

I wondered if he was born in Italy to an Italian father and an English mother.

I can't speak Italian so can anyone point me in the right direction.

Italian immigrant in Manchester in the 1960s

Hello everybody, I have been entrusted to search for an Italian immigrant who worked for some time between 1958 and 1960 in a Manchester hotel as a waiter.

There are no records of him in British databases now, so it can be reasonably assumed that he returned to Italy. However, with no clear date and place of birth, tracking him is a daunting task.

Anybody could advise me on where I could look for traces of his presence in the UK. Do the National Insurance archives go far back as the 1960s?

In trying to research my great-grandmother Elsie May Brinie, I stumbled across a note someone had written and attatch to someone I believe to be her father, reguarding Italians in England, and was hoping someone could confirm this or tell me where I can try looking this information up. Here is the note:
"Being Italian in England at this time was not desireable, so Anthony changed it from the original "Borrini." The main family name in the UK was "Borrino," but aliases also included "Borrim" and "Brinie." "
I had been told previously that her father had changed his last name (so "Brinie" is not his official last name) which is why I believe this is him, however I have no proof...

Hi,

Ivy and Simone are 2 of 9 children between Simone Dirienzo (snr) and Daisy Jeeves. Their relationship is an odd. Although Simone is referred to as the father of most of them, he was more than likely, not.

Research suggests Daisy was rather err...promiscuous and Simone, in all likelihood, was not the father of all 9.

Simone and Daisy never married despite their children, but Daisy eventually married Richard Green in the 1930's.

Because Simone never married it means there is no certificate to indicate the name of his father which I am hoping to locate something about his arrival in the UK.

Regards
Elliot

I am trying to trace my Italian ancestors and hope that someone can help me.

Apparently the family name was Genesini, this is the way I find it spelt in English records and later shortened to Genes.

My Great Grandfather is recorded on my Grandfathers marriage certificate as Francesco Genesini. I know that Francesco had five sons – Giuseppe Alfredo (Joseph Alfred) B. 1888 in London, Dominic (Donald) B.1892 in London, Roberto Thomaso (Robert Thomas) B. 1894 in London, Francesco (Frank) B.1896 in London, Luigi (Louis) B.1902 in London because I met most of them in my youth.
Francesco Genesini Senior is recorded as having a father named Dominico and Francesco married Julia Mary Unwin in 1886 in London.

My Grandfather Dominic (Donald) told me that the family came from Castelnuovo Di Garfagnana in Tuscany and when I was 14 years old in 1954 we drove to Italy to visit the village, I have returned many times since and it has now become a city.

I do not know when Francesco came to England but guess sometime in the mid 1800’s and it has been a lifelong ambition to trace our early Italian roots and perhaps contact any of the Genesini family still living in Italy or elsewhere.

Any help will be appreciated

Terry Genes
