Hello,
I need some help researching this ancestor of mine. I know that he was born in England around 1850-ish. At some point, he came to Canada, but I can't find a record of him crossing the ocean. In Canada, he married a woman named Frances Jane Anderson in 1876, and they had four children--Harriet, Rose Valetta, Alice Bertha, and...I think a son named William, I forget. Harriet was my great-grandmother.
I did find his death record on the FamilySearch website. He died in 1898 (I tried to attach the record but it doesn't work). But I would really like to find his birth record, and hopefully his parents names. I have them as William Stone and Martha Coleman, but that may be incorrect. I would like to confirm if those were indeed his parents.
A little more information, in case it helps: I remember being told a story about one of my ancestors who was supposed to marry a woman in England, because that is what his parents wanted him to do, but he came to Canada instead. I believe that was Jabez. I can't remember any more details, unfortunately.
I have occasionally seen his name written as Jebez, Jelez, Job, Jobe...I think that's all of the variations I've seen. I don't know if that helps or not.
If I look his name up on Google, of course I only get results from "The Devil and Daniel Webster." If I look it up here on Ancestry, I get a whole bunch of results, all with different parents, and all born approximately around his time. So I really need some help figuring out which one is right! I thought if I could work backwards and find out when and how he got to Canada, that would help.
Update: I found a tree that says he was born in Canada, which changes everything. I just don't know where they got their information. Help, please!
Update #2: They have his father as being born in 1740, and dying 20 years before Jabez was born. So much for that idea. *sobs*
I'll just be over here in the corner, rocking back and forth whilst sobbing uncontrollably. Driven mad by my deceased ancestor, Jabez Stone, whoever the heck he was.
