Surnames: Ariola, Dell Ariola, Dell Arolla, Ariolo, Ariolla, Delariola, Dellariola, Delarolla
Hello,

I have had a good amount of success interpreting old records, but this particular entry from the 1901 Duchesse di Genova passenger list, for Raffaele and Antonio [Dell] Ariola is hard to figure out.

I've attached a screenshot of the entry, which is for the 'staying with relatives/friends' field. In the destination field, they put 'Albany'.

I know Raffaele resided in NY. The next known address is after Raffaele married (Rose): Lenox, Madison, New York, United States.

Antonio settled in Queens, NY. Coincidentally, further passenger lists showed that brother Raffaele stayed with Antonio briefly as Raffaele travelled back to Naples after the death of Rose, to find (trip 1) and bring back (trip 2) Raffaele's second wife Elvira.

Is the relative a cousin? aunt? is there a name?

Any details/speculation is welcomed!

Did you ever get answer for this? I don't think the surname is Ariola.

Hello,

The screenshot is the name of the relative or friend they are visiting. So, it isn't likely to be Ariola.

Thanks Jean - interesting, I wouldn't have seen that because I was expecting Italian, but I see it now.

In my opinion Raffaele and Antonio's surname is a poorly written "Della Rocca".. As for the person they were going to see.. it would have been most likely an Italian person.. Since they were from Caizzo, Italy (as mentioned on the passenger list) the person they were going to see was "uncle ? G. Sangiovanni. That's how I see it.
