While trying to tie my GG Grandfather to an arrival in the early to mid 1850's from Ireland. I keep coming across "Uncle" as an occupation for both men and women. Did the word get associated with a particular line of work back then in Ireland ? Was there some rule that anybody sailing with a child other then their parents had to state their relation as their occupation?
