Fredrick Schafer born in Neubauer, Russia from German parents, 8 Nov. 1828. Wife, Mary Katherine Lehrer (not sure of maiden name) came to America 10 Jan.1876 with son, Jacob Schafer born 24 April 1867 in Neubauer, Russia. Settled in Hillsboro, Kansas where my g-grandfather, Benjimin Scahfer, was born 17 Aug. 1876. Family went on to Okeene, Oklahoma in 1892 and homesteaded. Trying to find documentation on Fredrick coming to America and his parents. Family tells story that he became a USA citizen 9 Oct. 1900. Any help appreciated.

My husband's Grandparents George Jacob Fertig and Katherine
Fisher were from Newbauer Russia. They went from libau russia to Mexico 1898 was there for a couple of months then came through the port of El Pasco texas 1898 then on to Topeka Kansas. Can you tell me anything about Newbauer Russia? I know it is on the west side of the Volga River.

My gg grandfather, Henry Schafer is listed with Fredrick and Mary in the 1880 Census.
He came to America in 1876 and lived in Kansas before moving to Oklahoma.
It is believed that Fredrick was his Uncle. Any info would be appreciated as this has been our brick wall for years.

Your area of focus are the Volga German colonies, they were along the Volga river. There is a Neu Bauer on the map just south of the Jerusian River, here is a map, i hope this helps. You can check the current map and see whats there now

Neu-Bauer was founded in 1859 as a Lutheran colony by colonists resettling from Bauer and Hussenbach.

After 1915, Neu-Bauer became known by its Russian name of Solyanka.

Solyanka is in Saratov Oblast, Volga Region, Russia. I made a map for you
