Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
Hello,
Are you sure about the dates? I find this Carl A in the Swedish records. I think you mean V Eneby as his parish of birth? It seems he came between 1887-1889, and his departure was from Gothenburg. Let me see if I can find which ship he came with.
Swedish Emigration Records, 1783-1951 about Carl A Svensson Name: Carl A Svensson Birth Year: abt 1865 Gender: Man (Male) Place of Origin: V Eneby Östergötland Län, Sverige Destination: Ophemi Record Date: 20 jun 1887 Port of Departure: Göteborg Database Name: EmiHamn Archive Call Number: 32:344:3312 Principal Person: Svensson Carl A Susanna

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
Hello again, Since there are a ton of emigrants with the same name, from the same region, around the same year, could you please give me some more information? Did Augusta come by herself? Where did she go? Same for Carl. Where did they reside after marriage, Kansas or elsewhere? I need more in order to be able to really find the right persons. What was the names of their parents?
Susanna

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
The dates I gave are from the Church Records in Kansas. Its The SW. Eu? Lutheran Salem Church, Marshall County, Kansas. Rev C A Julius Pastor Axtell, Kansas Nov 4, 1936.
Carl Axel Swanson Vestra Enelay Ostergotland, Sweden born Aug 7, 1861, batized 1861 confirmed June 3, 1877 Join Salem Church Aug 7, 1892 Came to America 1888 was married at this church Feb 27, 1892 Dismissed from Salem Jan 14, 1919. Moved to Colton, South Dakota. Carl Axel died 1 year later 1920.

I have no information about their travels. That is what I am searching for to see if I can find family in Sweden. I do not know if the traveled alone. I know Carl Axel had a brother named Oscar who also lived in Kansas.

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
This is trickier than I thought it to be...so I need some more, as I first of all want to find all possible census to "trace" the family and secure dates/years. You say he died in 1920. Was he a widow then? Did Matilda die before him? I have found a couple of possible families in Kansas for the time 1900-1910 but one of them states his age to 10 years older...not that that's rare, but I need more facts to be sure. And, where in Marshall county did they live, any idea? How about kids? Any names and years? To be able to go back I need to confirm their life here. The reason for that is that I seldom trust the records "over here", they're too often not completely correct. Sorry, but I need a little more to move on. Susanna

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
Good morning Eileen,
This is probably your Mathilda Augusta Carlsson (Carlsdotter) born in Torpa. Unfortunately she was living in a household as a maiden in 1890 census so we still need to find out where she's from originally (her family).
Post 930637
Carlsd:r, Augusta Mathilda Piga (maiden)
f. 1867 i Torpa (Östergötlands län, Östergötland)
Ogift kvinna, ensam i familjen (single woman)
Håkantorp rusthåll, Tjärstad (Östergötlands län, Östergötland)(the place she lived at in 1890)
Födelseort i källan: Torpa Ög. l. (Place where she was born)
So we should be able to find her family at the time for her childhood. Hang in there! Susanna

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
You are wonderful. Thank you so much. I had some additional information on my grandmother August Mathilda but don't know if its accurate. Her father and mother were Carl Gustaf Jonsson and Alma G E Andersdotter. I can't confirm this information because I can't find the paperwork where I was given these names.
Was a maiden like a servant or housekeeper status?
Thank you so much for continuing my search.

Re: Carl Axel Swanson or Svensson
He died before her. She lived until 1957 and both died in Colton, South Dakota, USA. They had 8 children. Carl Arthur Swanson b 1892, Albin Edward b 1894, Elsa Maria b 1896, Ernst Gothard b 1898, Elmer Emmanuel b 1900, Mayna Sophia b 1904, Della Leviva Sophia b 1907 and Roy William b 1910. All were born in Marshall County, Kansas and confirmed at the Salem Luthern Church in Axtell, Kansas. They lived on a farm so I am assuming near the town of Axtell.
