The escape of Ola Månsson - grandfather of Charles Lindbergh
August Lindbergh was born as Ola Månsson May 12 1808 in Smedstorp, Sweden and died October 15 1893 in Little Falls, Minnesota, US.
He was the father of lawyer, loan officer and congressman Charles August Lindbergh and grandfather of the famous flyer Charles Lindbergh.
Ola Månsson was a rich farmer close to Simrishamn in the south of Sweden and with his wife Ingar Jönsdotter he had 7 children. He was selected to the Swedish parliament, representing the peasantry and had several assignments.
In 1858 Månsson was tried in the Swedish court on accusations of embezzlement of money from the bank at which he was a loan officer. After the trial, Ola Månsson, his wife Lovisa Carlén and her infant son Carl immigrated to the United States. When they immigrated Ola changed his name to August and changed the family surname to Lindbergh. The infant's name was changed from Carl to Charles August.
I'm curious how they travelled from Sweden and if they travelled in correct names. Ola, as mentioned above, left his wife and his children...to escape with a much younger waitress...and they were unmarried...

Hej! This is what it looks like in the census for 1880 (I guess you've seen this one before). Was Louisa the former waitress? And they must have 1858, right? I'll see what else I can find in the immigration records.

Re: The escape of Ola Månsson - grandfather of Charles Lindbergh
Hi Susanna and everyone interested in this topic,
I am interested in finding out if any info exists higher up in the family tree of Ola Mansson? I saw his date and place of birth but no info re: his parents. After reading a bit about Charles Lindbergh and his parents and grandparents, I think the potential exists that I am some kind of VERY distant cousin of his. I'm also wondering if it might be better to do the DNA test through Ancestry.com or 23andme.com. This research is difficult, especially considering the info I am looking for probably only exists in Sweden. Any assistance or advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Sherri
