OK, just doing some other checking and starting on the Ogden side I find the Ogden family book that identifies Phebe as marrying Samuel. Of interest to me, so thank you, is that her sister Elizabeth m. Dr. Oliver Barnet. of New Germantown NJ. Dr. Barnet during the revolution served as Regimental Surgeon for the 4th Hunterdon Regiment of Militia. My gx4 gf was the Colonel of the Regiment during the revolution and became Brigadier of the Hunterdon Brigade after the war. Dr. Barnet was later a Judge and I have many land documents executed by my g4 in front of Dr. Barnet. Dr. Barnet eventually obtained a great deal of my Grandfather's land due to debts incurred during the War.

In an online version of the Whitaker family history I find where post 1794 a Nathaniel Whitaker m. 2nd Ruth Haines, daughter of Samuel Haines, near Vealtown, and had a daughter Hannah who married Nicholas Arrowsmith Jun. Esq. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njmorris/passaicvalley/whi...
(Vealtown is now know as Bernardstown)

A search of the Haines name in Findagrave for the state of NJ finds a great many of that name many from the 1700/1800's.

Henry Hains was born ca~ 1687 no place of birth.

An interesting tidbit from a 1916 edition of the Somerset County Historical Quarterly https://archive.org/stream/somersetcountyhi05hone#page/272/m... states on p. 273 the following Haynes-Haines - James came from England about 1637 to Salem, Mass; died there abouth 1653; wife Mary ----. Sons were John Benjamin, James, Jonathan and Thomas. Through Benjamin descend the New Jersey families of the name. (no source give for his information)

I used the search parameter on Google of - Samuel Haines, Basking Ridge NJ, 1795

OK, you've probably already got those if not then hope they help.

Regards,

Tim

P.S. And one other source that contains many databases is the State of New Jersey online Archives at
http://www.nj.gov/state/archives/searchdatabases.html

I did a quick check under the Colonial Land Surveys & Warrants using Haines as the Last name and no other parameters. I think you will be pleased with the result. Colonial Mariiages may also be a good one for early records as well as the Rev. War Damages. Also check the Supreme Court Case Files, usually a good source as well, LOTS of court actions filed back then. The Supreme Court in those days was the equivalent of our District, Superior, court of appeals, small claims, and Supreme court of today, rolled into one body.

Best,

Tim

Thanks again. Right now, I believe the information that you sent on the Haines family trading in Barbados is my best bet. I know that they were merchants but I have not been able to find any proof except one lawsuit where my earliest known ancestor sued a man about a large shipment of pottery.

It does seem that the NY merchant that d. 1690 and his brother Robert of Barbadoes along with John's sons Andrew and the other one were very active in the trade.
