The "Legion of HonoUr" was a ship belonging to T.N. MacKay partner in Baines and MacKay/Black Ball Line, Liverpool. She was built in St. John, New Brunswick by H.W. Wilson, bought for the Australian emigrant trade, sold in 1867, re-purchased in 1868, sold to someone called Roberts in 1871. Ran ashore 70 miles east of Tripoli in 1877. Google Black Ball Line or theshipslist.

Hi Susie
I too am keen to find a passenger list for the Legion of Honour, arriving in Queensland in July 1864. Have you had any luck?

Hello to you Elizabeth,
Unfortunately I have had no luck with that as yet.I did get a reply from "halpark", with information about the ship, his reply was in February. I'm not real savvy yet with computers, so am unsure if you can read his reply,on my message board, so the following is what he sent to me.

'The "Legion of HonoUr" was a ship belonging to T. N. MacKay, partner in Baines and MacKay/Black Ball Line, Liverpool. She was built in St. John, New Brunswick by H. W. Wilson, bought for Australian emigrant trade, sold in 1867, re-purchased in 1868, sold to someone called Roberts in 1871. Ran ashore 70 miles east of Tripoli in 1877. Google- Black Ball Line or theshipslist.'end of message.

There is a book called "Illustrated History of Queensland", Chapter 13, Colony of Queensland, page 110, that tells of the fire on 1st December 1864, that destroyed the block housing Government buildings of Brisbane, I'm thinking that maybe the passanger arrival list may have went up in smoke, also do you know that there was an Inquiry into the July 1864 voyage, the Captain was charged with drunkeness and the whole affair took a while to sort out in the courts.
I have a bit about it from information sent to my family years ago, when writing letters and telephones were how "family history" was put together.
If I do happen to come across the passenger list, I will pass it on to you or let you know where it can be found, until then happy hunting for your family history.
Kindest Regards,
Susie Wilson.

Hi Susie
Thank you very much for your response re the Legion of Honour trip in 1864. I have heard that a partial passenger list exists but cannot trace it. I am also interested in the crew list. I intend to try to obtain the report of the Inquiry from the Queensland State Archives as there may be mention of the names that I am researching.
Thanks again

Hi Susie
Yesterday I was at the Queensland State Archives and found a microfilm with the names of the passengers who came on the Legion of Honor in 1864 who received land orders. It is as good as a passenger list. If I have time today I will take an image of the page for Liversey. Otherwise it is microfilm no. Z2517, IMM 250.

Elizabeth

Hi Catherine
Sorry but I don't have all the pages from the microfilm roll that relate to the Legion of Honour. On the image of the page for my ancestors there appears to be a James Trotter. You would need to have a look yourself or possibly pay a professional researcher for an hour or two's work. At least now you know where to look. Sorry I can't help more.
Regards
Elizabeth

Thanks anyway, I found some published passenger lists for ships into Brisbane on Trove for 1864, but alas not the Legion of Honour.
