The Lady Cathcart Settlers came to Martin District, south of Wapella, Sask from Benbecula, Inverness, Scotland in the 1870's. I think there is community history book on Wapella - it may be on line - more details there.

I've been able to search a digital copy of this book at the following site: http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/bibliography/4699.html

I visited St. Andrews Church and Cemetery south of Wapella, Saska. in August, and was able to get photos of the grave markers of my great-grandparents (Morrison and McPhee families) and other relatives. I also took photos at the Whitewood Cemetery of family members, mostly the Morrisons (my great uncles and great aunts). I'm gradually putting this information in my family tree on ancestry.ca

Hi rbarclay63, I hope you had a grand visit last summer. Might you happen to have taken a photo of the headstone for John McPhee. I know his wife Effie Campbell died in 1913 and that he died after the 1922 MacKinnon booklet was written. I'm hoping to find a year to enter into the tree. TX, Jan

Howdy! Just stumbled upon this website and Bingo!
My Great Grandparents, on the Campbell side were part of the Lady Cathcart Settlers.
They are James Campbell (1832-1920) and Catherine Campbell (nee Cameron) (1837-1885).
Their daughter was Elizabeth Campbell (1868-1944).
Plus brothers.
Elizabeth was my Grandmother (Granny McIver)
She married Donald McIver in 1887 and they homesteaded just north of Saltcoats, SK.
They raised a brood of 12, my Dad being one.
Elizabeth Campbell's brothers all eventually went to Vancouver and my Campbell cousins are there.
James and Catherine are buried in the Wilwood Cemetery I think but will have to look it up and do some sleuthing.
Enough to tease you tonight?
I'm at gordonmacivor@gmail.com in Osoyoos, BC.
Exciting Stuff!

Hi Gordon, Nice to meet you. Watch for an e-mail coming your way. :) I'm not related to you, but I've built trees for all of the Lady Cathcart families. I'd love to prepare notes. (So far, I've found that there were only 7 of the 40 families that were not related by blood or marriage.) Cheers, Jan

Good morning Fiona, The Lady Cathcart Settlers came from Benbecula & South Uist. :) I haven't come across any of this specfic group of 1883-1884 emigrants to Saskatchewan, Canada who came from Vatersay. :)
