If your father has been deceased 20 years or more you can order his service records (they're free) by providing proof of death - a death certificate, photo of his headstone or obituary.
His service records will tell you exactly when he returned to Canada. There will also be an address for next-of-kin so you can see if his wife remained in the UK until the end of his service.
I have two distant relatives who were with the Forestry Corps and they both had Scottish war brides too.
