My great grandfather was married at age 20 in Brisbane Australia in 1875. He was born in Fyvie and some time between 1871 and 1875 he emigrated to Australia. I am unsure when he changed his name from William Strachan Beattie or why. He was listed in the 1871 census as a tailor's apprentice and in the Brisbane census as a tailor. I cannot find records of passage under either name.

There is a tiny scrap of information about a William Leslie, aged 20, arriving on the "STORM KING" at Moreton Bay, Brisbane from London, on 3rd May 1873. It is on Ancestry under "Queensland Passenger Lists, 1848 - 1912". It is a "long-shot", and there is no proof that it is him.

If you try a google for "Trove Newspapers - "STORM KING" arriving Moreton Bay 3rd May 1873," there is also a little more, (but not much).

Thanks for your info Brian. I had already found this and although the age does not match, I am making a presumption that this is him (maybe unwise) as another passenger listed is Adelaide Russell to whom he was married in 1875. Too much of a coincidence? Given that he changed his Surname from Beattie, he could also have increaed his age for the trip out.
