Groups of unaccompanied teenagers to Australia
I was just looking at a ship leaving London for Sydney in 1925, as it seemed a person of interest was on board (Alexander Jeffrey b 1910 Gateshead, Co Durham). He was unaccompanied. Looking through the passenger list, there were many other young teenage men, ages 15-17, from Gateshead on the ship, all unaccompanied. Maybe an agent sending over young workers for a project? Or families sending young men for a better life?
Anyone have any ideas? Was this common at the time?

Thanks. That answered my question and much, much more.
Do you have any ideas how I could trace my Alex Jeffrey in Australia after he arrived?

Re: Groups of unaccompanied teenagers to Australia
I have two young girls unassisted and unaccompanied on this same ship in Feb-April 1915 ages 4 & 6. I can't for the life of my fathom why!

Re: Groups of unaccompanied teenagers to Australia
Thanks, that's really interesting. I am always having problems finding information for the few descendants I have in Australia. You have given me some good pointers.
Any more tips on good resources, gratefully received!

Theodora and Marie-Louise, right? That's a strange one too. Surely they must have been accompanied by someone? Did they have relatives in Australia?
