Hartwood Hospital, Lanarkshire
I am trying to discover more about my grandmother, Agnes Allan, who was a patient at Hartwood Hospital in Lanarkshire from 1934 until 1989. Does anyone know whether any of the records from this hospital are available? I know that the hospital burned down in the 1990s, but have no idea what happened to any of the people or records.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Hartwood Hospital, Lanarkshire
Hospital medical records are closed for 100 years. You might just find when and if a patient entered or left but you will get nothing on medical records until you are past the 100 year mark - which it seems you are not. This applies even if records of a hospital which has closed have been deposited elsewhere.

Thanks for that information - that helps me a lot and saved a lot of time.

Re: Hartwood Hospital, Lanarkshire
Glad to help. I gather the idea is that up to 100 years there could still be living relatives who would not want intimate information given out. Not everyhone knows this and folk waste a lot of time trying to access the inaccessible. Good luck with further searches.

Re: Hartwood Hospital, Lanarkshire
It seems perfectly reasonable - I can fully understand it. I can add the information to my tree. Who knows - someone in the future may be interested enough to look it up, especially as it's a really interesting, WW1 related story. I'll write what I know and leave it for future reference. Thanks so much for taking the time to write. You've added some excellent information for me.
