Recently someone (finally) informed me of the requirements to 'use' a Coat of Arms or family crest. Since I have encountered a significant number of direct family members (so far down to 38th gg grandparents level) having such symbols throughout all of Europe & UK (in places I never would have guessed !), is it permissible to place one of those symbols on the page of that specific person to represent only that person, and not 'use' it to represent anyone else in the family, past or present? Just in case that doesn't make sense ... If the family ancestor was entitled to it's use, is it or is it not acceptable to use their own COA and/or crest to represent them, and ultimately have it printed in a family history document of some kind AND specifically state that others in the family are not entitled to use those symbols in any manner?
