I have had a look through the Harleian Society's "Collection of Miscellaneous Grants" and a foot note appears at the bottom of Confirmation of Arms to Francis Colier of Darleston, Staffs, viz;
"The arms granted to Robert Collier 1 Eliz: by Harvey Claenceaux were: Ar. On a chev. Az. Between three demi-unicorns courant gu. As many acorn slips or. Crest: A demi-negro proper with pearls in his ears ar. Holding a the dexter hand an acorn branch vert, fructed or; but afterwards the family bore, Sa. A cross patee fitchee or, and crest a cross patee fitchee between two wings conjoined or, as in the above grant by Sir Wm. Segar of 10 Oct 1629."
So it would appear that G S Collyer used the "old/disused" Arms of Collier. Whether or not he descended from Robert Collier mentioned above is another matter.
Yours aye
