even though you aunt has passed on... its still not a good idea to post her social security number...

i came to your post as you popped up as a relative of a William Morris... would this be the same William Morris Sr who was an early pioneer of Kanawha Virginia?

I believe that is where some of my Grandmothers family is/or came from. I also believe some still may be there.
The last name was FOLEY. Some of them may of been miners.
I also believe a few of them may be buried there, but I am unsure of thier names.
Anothony & Ona (Anna) were the parents; they had several children- I don't know all the names, but, some are:
Joesph, Helen, Ferdie, John & Peter.
Joesph was in WW II and later settled in Michigan. Helen settled in Michigan. John lived in Texas for awhile and later moved to Mississippi. I also believe Ferdie and Peter also lived in Michigan.

Of course the movie was exaggerated. Some people that lived in that area at that time believed it, and they weren't all flakes.
The bridge collapse was a very real tragedy! The sorrow and pain of that sort of thing is difficult to imagine.
K

The Mothman

I just posted a message about this on the Halloween forum here as I didn't notice the W.VA board at the time.
I don't know how close to the truth that Hollywood movie with Richard Gere was about the actual events surrounding the Mothman, but that movie scared me to bits!!
Being a believer in such things (why not, folks believe in all sorts of things all over the world), I was totally fascinated by this story.
I just wondered if there was more to it than the movie led on, or did the movie really blow thing up for ~ratings~?
I cannot believe that I missed that one! I have been to this cemetary to see my Jones' great-grandparents Dewitt & LaDona Jones who are buried there. Almost walked into Great-Uncle's caved in grave!

Would love to see if we are related somehow, email me at vagenealogist@yahoo.com

Thanks, Joanne Smith

I visited that cemetary in the summer of 2000. I didn't care that the sun was going down and getting darker by the minute.
Almost didn't notice that Great-Great-Uncle Lee Jones' grave had fallen in and almost went for an unplanned visit.

Didn't get to visit the far side of the cemetary, but will next visit.

Noticed a very old marker from the 1840s, don't remember the name, found out when I got home that she was my GGG-grandmother's sister.

What are your surnames??

I found this message on a tombstone:

Behold you strangers passing by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now you must be
Prepare for Death
And follow me.

The name on the tombstone was Aunt Maggie Mcclung
and she lived from 1874 to 1975.
