Edgar..speaking of your Dad building that road up Mattox Mtn..
My son who is 38 years old is still amazed at the strength and endurance
our fathers (and grandfathers) had..I remember my Dad coming home from
work when he worked for the WPA (most people dont know what that
was)..we would run down the hill to meet him and carry his lunch bucket
home, with the hopes of finding an uneaten biscuit in it..
He wore blue denim shirts and the back of his shirt was ALWAYS white,
where he had sweated the salt out of his body doing that WPA work..He
was strict, and did not like "foolishness" from us kids.. when he said
"hellfire and damnation", we knew to run, as that was about the only
"cusswords" he used..he was born in 1866 and fathered 21
children..outlived both his wives and 3 of his children.. those
old-timers were MEN!
