Hi Everyone:

While looking through my departed mother-in-law’s cook books and recipes for newspaper clippings and other notes that she kept, I came across her mother’s hand written recipe for “Ripe Tomato Ketchup.” When I asked my wife about it she said that it was “…the best ketchup I ever tasted.” She went on to say that she used to help her grandmother make it and preserve it for the winter. Preserving was also called “puttin up.” My wife told me that her grandmother told her that she got the recipe from her mother so it is quite old.

If anyone would like a copy of the hand written recipe, please send me an email with the title, “Ketchup Recipe.” I will send you an email with a Microsoft Word file attached with a copy of the actual recipe. If you would like a PDF file please, in the body of the message, ask for “PDF File Please.” Please note that I am not the author of the recipe I only coped it.

We would then preserve the ketchup for winter use. It was the most delicious ketchup I have ever tasted.” She died, 4 December 1946 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA, at the age of 56, from complications of diabetes. I was 9 years old.” Maggie was born in Franklin Twp., Adams County, PA, 12 March 1890, the youngest child of farm laborer and Civil War veteran George Washington Kump and Mary Catherine Metz.
