Is she a real lady? Does any one know who her Mr Goodwin was?? Could one of her children be a Henry B Goodwin? any info appreciated
thanks Mary
I am missing a g g g grandfather named Rev Henry B Goodwin, it was suggested by someone he was her son??

I have an answer!! Yes she was very real! She married one of my ancestors by the name of Roger Polk, of Polk County, Arkansas and they had many colored kids being that she was his slave and ended up marrying her. She got pregnant by another slave and he sold her and keep the mixed kids. Her daughter wrote a book about how she never got to grow up with her mom, and that is were the song "Sally Goodin" comes from. Later Woody Guthrie and hank Williams turned the popular folk lyrics into a fiddle tune and that is where the tune comes from. We have many pictures and shots of them together and actually know the colored kids. My grandpa was signing it one day before it was recorded at church and a colored man came up and asked how he knew it, he said my grandpa sang it to me when I was a kid. he said well mine did too. Come to find out they were distant half cousins!! (:
